I bought the car in March of '07 for $350 from a Porsche Tech who was a former Volvo tech. It didn't run, the previous owner said someone tried to start it with a screwdriver and messed up the ignition lock, he also said that the gas tank was rusted out. The paint was seriously oxidized and the interior was dirty but good.
Here are some pics of when I first bought it.
First thing I did was to replace the ignition lock, wasn't too hard. Next up was the fuel tank, for some reason I opted to get a Summit Racing fuel cell that holds 16 gallons. It uses a GM style sender so I had to get a different gauge. I re-did all of the fuel lines up to the fuel pump (I'll have pics of that tomorrow). I need to clean up some of the wiring though.
Here's a pic of my new boost and fuel gauge. I shoulda got a boost gauge that showed vacuum too, but o well.
Then I soon found out that the fuel pump didn't work, so I bought a new Holly pump (more pics to come).
It finally started up, but it only lasted for a few minutes. Turns out the foam in the fuel cell absorbed most of the gas, so I filled it up. Then my car was constantly flooding, so I eventually bought another fuel distributor and injectors. I only used the dizzy and it fired right up, I guess it was clogged with something that was in the old lines.
Next thing was tires and inspection, got that. Now I was on the road!
I then spent most of my time doing general maintenance and getting it to Stage 0. Now its pretty much at Stage 0. Oh and John's wires are the best!
Exhaust sucks anyways.... It started dragging while I was driving one day, so I ripped it off and left it for dead.
I got my wheels painted black by a guy who I used to work with. He used a black basecoat with a clearcoat on top. So, its a good paint job that should hold up 100x better than spraypaint. Its jacked up so it looks bad. The wheels are really dirty too.
Next I put in an electric fan, Autozone especial. It works great, but is a little loud, but hey, it was cheap. I never put an e-fan in my last 244, because I was afraid of the wiring and switches, but DONT BE!!! It's super easy and definately worth it.
I put the switch where the foglamps(?) switch was.
I put a MSD Blaster 2 coil in next. I ran out of electric connector things, so there is some loose wire that I'll clean up later.
When I was working at Freedom Chevy I compounded my car and buffed it out. It looks way better, but the paint was chipping off with the pressure sprayer!!!
Then I installed an intercooler and only got to drive it for 1 day.... It's apart right now because I have the exhaust manifold off.
I had a 90+ laying around so I figured it was a good time to port it and put it on (since I am currently unemployed...). I did the porting myself, its not perfect but I think it will work, I also ported the turbo side.
I autocrossed this car before I had the e-fan and it was soooo much better than my 850. I cant wait to get some suspension done on it.
The next thing I need to do is put in new motor mounts and tranny mounts. I also plan on chopping the springs for now and getting Bilsteins when I get another job. The grill is also gonna get repainted black, the paint is chipping off on it right now. Once I get it back on the road I'll cleaned it up and get some better pics of the outside. Hopefully that won't be too long, there is an autocross coming up this weekend.
Thanks to everyone out there who has answered my questions and helped me become even more broke!
There will be plenty more updates soon!
New pics 1-7-08
Washed the car and figured it was a good time to take some new pics.
Side exit.
But, its too low... Now it rattles over 3000 rpm.
New 120 mph speedo and nicer tach.
Changed the location of the fuel cell. Now I feel a little safer.
New fuel lines from the fuel cell to filter (-8AN).
Anyways, she's doing ok. I also just painted the grill black, so it looks wayy better, so more pics coming.
