Default trans fluid and shift quality

Ill keep this short and sweet. Ive got one car with an AW71 (the other will be stick) since i know i will eventually kill the AW, cause i drive the piss outa it, i've been thinking of how to prolong the life (changing the way i drive is neither reasonable or realistic, heh) SO...one way to get a firmer shift and keep from burning up stuff to quick is to raise the pressure. Since that not as easy as turning a screw an old trick that i learned in an auto trans class i took comes to mind.

An AW71 takes dexron III. Type F is used for eariler fords. Type F is a higher viscosity fluid. I made this mistake only once and serviced the trans in my 86 escort with type F. it always had a pretty hard shift after that....a few months later i serviced it again with dexron III....had a much smoother shift. I inquired about this and basically its a thicker fluid, so the pressure is higher = a slightly firmer shift.

Anyone try this in an AW71?

Mark

Not higher viscosity.
Type F has friction modifiers so it shifts harder.

i've been running cheap generic synthetic tranny fluid in my AW71 for the last 130k changed out every 60k, it has been beaten on
regularly towed 3-5000lb
atached to a motor that puts out over 300ft-lbs

still drives like it was new

I have no idea, but i'd say if you've replaced the tranny fluid regularly and recently, it probably wouldnt hurt too much. and if you've got an m46 or whatever on the way, why the hell not.

Type F will wear out your trans. I burned up the drum bushings in my TH350 with it.
