Default Sweet 1800

Here's a pretty sweet 1800 (ES?), it's owned by a pretty cool guy who has been on this board before. His name on here is sberry I think. I saw this car at my first autocross and I just flipped out for a few seconds, I was totally not expecting to see another Volvo, specially this one! Oh and yeah, it's supercharged!

Maybe the owner will input some of his knowledge of this car.

It's a supercharged megasquirted b20. He also wrote an article about MS for Grassroots Motorsports.

There's a bit more documentation on it on the site.

Sweet car, almost a clone of one that showed up at the Bozzanni Volvo gathering back in '05. The car was for sale at the time, don't know what happened to it.

Steve is an awesome guy. Haven't met him in person but he has been a lot of help getting my 1800 to where it is. (almost on the road) He took 22nd over all with that 1800. 2nd in class behind a modded up STI impreza.

Time are posted here.

I'm with you on that one. They're so absolutely beautiful. Though i think that white is the only color for these cars.

There was one really beautiful example for sale in my town, but it would've taken 20.000 euros for it to change owners. It sure did look nice.

I've met Steve once or twice and he is a really cool guy. In my area I seem to be one of the very few Volvo fans in town and my jaw dropped when I saw his 1800 roll into town for an autocross. Put my 242 to shame ... but it was worth to see such a beautiful 1800.

As a side note, I would love to add an 1800ES to my collection one day... they say dreams really do come true so we'll see

Thanks for the kind words regarding the blue car and me not being a jerk. It's finally competitive in Autocross since I've added some V710's. THis past weekend was my first time on race tires and it was really great.

The other car form the bonzanini (sp?) event belongs to a guy named James Alles (sp?). This car was probably the coolest 1800 ever - it had a lot of the same specs as my car but it was Q-tip perfect down to the last nut and bolt. It sold for somewhere between $40k and $50k making it one of the most expensive 1800's ever sold.

Good to see you around Steve. Any updates coming soon on the Supercharged motor? Well above that 200hp mark yet? Or are you even shooting for it, considering how fast the car currently is and how balanced it probably is, with race tires on it.

I remember reading that it became a whole lot harder to come to grips with when you supercharged it, a whole other beast on the autox track...

I still have my car - I was referring to the other very nice one someone posted pictures of that was sold.

When I installed the supercharger I moved from 110whp to 160whp. I used to be able to just hold the pedal down and concentrate on my line and conserving momentum. It took a while to get used modulating throttle and not pitching out the rear. More me than the car.

The move from 160 (8psi) -> 190 (12psi) (guesstimate) was not nearly so much of a shock. I get a lot of usable power right off of idle and the torque curve looks like a tabletop all the way to redline. Pretty great in a 2400 lb car. The tires made it super cool.

I'm thinking I can push it a bit further. A cam change would be cool (using an N/A performance cam) but I'm having too much fun driving it to take it apart. I'm sure I'll blow something up at some point and deal with it then.

Awesome. Good to see you still at it. Someday I'll be up to it as well, although my build will sacrifice some of that low end power and torque for a bunch of high rpm noise and power from being NA. Someday.
