not getting gas???

ok when i drive my 83 242 turbo when i get down on it aroud 3.5-4000 rpm the car lags back and forth like its not getting gas but then it clears up after 2 sec. it doesnt do it all the time. any one go any idea im going to buy engine cleaner you put in gas tank to clean the engine to see if that helps... if you have any ideas to fix it please help tell me!!!!
