Just a few simple questions as when you type in Ecode here you get more topics then one can read through.
But is there a differnece between 940's with fogs vs that without fogs when it comes to the ecode headlight swap? Also if one was to use Ecodes from a RHD car what would I need to put on the lens as to not blind the on coming traffic. thanks. |

E-code lights for the 940 came in 2 guises.
1. The same as the 90+ 740's, i.e. no fogs. VERY rare in the Uk on 940's 2. The same as the late760's/early960's i.e. with fogs and spots built in. These are very common. To have suitable lights for a LHD car you can either; A. Buy LHD lights. B. Buy RHD lights and rotate the H4 bulb in the housing. C. Buy RHD lights and use 'beam benders'. These are a stick on film that covers part of the lens and redirects the light to the right. We in the Uk have to use them if we drive in mainland Europe to avoid dazzling people.

Heck, the RHD lenses are complete wrong concerning the image of light. If you tape over the parts blindning the traffic you'd be almost blind...
Try to get some LHD lenses instead.

thanks for the info, well LHD lights might be outta of question as in a couple of months I may get a hook up for RHD ones so if putting the film on is all it takes or rotating the bulb then I think its worth it. thanks for the info. |

The ecodes with fogs came in 2 forms. 760s had the fog light above the driving light and 940 was reversed with fog at the bottom.
Converting RHD headlight to LHD is very hard and frustrating. I know, I tried. You need to rotate the bulb in its housing as well as the shield and swap the lenses. I trashed mine in the process and went to projectors instead. Learn a foreign language and get LHD ecodes. Try german ebay. Most of the sellers speak English and are willing to ship to the US. Putting on the "beam benders" works too but you lose the upkick on the passenger side.

Actually, Justin, it was only the 1988 760's that had the fog light on top and the same size as the spot, from the '89MY it swapped to the common form with the larger fog on the bottom.
Some of you may be confusing beam benders with beam blockers. This was the old way of doing things - just block out the light that dips down to the left. There are now new products that actually deflect the beam to give a psuedo LHD light pattern. They will not be as good as LHD lights, about 85% has been quoted which should still be way better than the crappy US lights you're saddled with. An internet search for Beam Benders should reveal all. There is, of course, no substitute for proper LHD lights. |
