Finally starting to work on my '84 245GL wagon and I wanted to do something different. I have a donor 5.0 mustang with a T-5 but recently I have the option of getting my hands on a IJZ-GTE with 5-spd or a 1ZUFE Lexus V8 with auto. Either way I have a lot of work to do but I want some opinions as to which swap would be cooler.

I like the 1 jz option, but I am sucker for forced induction and the sound of straight sixes.

5.0 - cheap to get more HP, sounds great, if you blow it up you'll find replacements everywhere.
1JZ - build it into a 1000 hp dyno monster. 1ZU - would probably make for a great DD with some balls that will reliably roll up 300K miles. B23 - easiest by far if your HP aspirations are within reason.

VR6 with the head ported to hell, huge turbo, and custom manifolds.
Will sound cool as hell! Won't take up much room either. Perhaps a little bigger then a 16v ![]() |
