Default B230 block marking R?

I have read that there is a super marine block similar to an 'R' block. see...
http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=24675

I have three blocks currently..
1992 250A (which I believe is what they renamed an AQ151C after some date)
1992 B230FB
1997 B230FT

The AQ151C block and B230FB blocks are from the same year and are marked with an 'R'

The 1997 B230FT block is not.
I would say the cylinder walls are maybe slightly thicker on the blocks marked 'R'.
I am modifying an old pair of vernier calipers so I can measure this.

Can anyone confirm this 'R' means anything?

Rob

i am not imformed about these red blocks, but i would guess no. check your other block and see what letter you have there. i think it only has to do with the casting procedure.

Highly unlikely that they are R-blocks. There are no external differences that differentiate a regular block from a real R-block. Take a set of calipers and measure the depth from the water pump mounting face to the #1 cylinder wall on all three blocks. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head but the difference in dimension there between a regular and an R-block should be around 2-3mm. I'm 99% sure all your blocks will measure up exactly the same, IE they are just plain vanilla castings.

Couldnt see anything on the net. But from looking at it again, i think if it was an R block, then it might be after or closer to the B230 print then what it is.

I dont think the R blocks were made that early, but i dont have experience with them.

Nice way to store blocks, i have to make a few of those stands as well! good thinking.

lol wtf

what is an R block?

sounds like it was for strictly marine motors? is it like the b230 weapon-type R?

My late-1992 squirter block has an R cast on it also. I have no expectations that it is an r-block

Pretty sure my 1990 AQ171c says R on it. My 1992 B230FT block may also, but I'm not positive.

Hmmm.
Were off into nonsence ramblings now.

I think I will conclude the 'R' cast into the side of the block is just a casting reference of some sort and does not mean anything else.
My two are just standard..which is ok.
