Default Shaved head, changes cam timing to what now?

just because I don't want to open my hood and look at the timing marks.

How much and in what direction does a seriously decked head change the Cam timing.

(I've had to have the head decked 2x because of overheating, i know what I think it did to the powerband but i want to know)

Shorter head = what to cam timing

Discuss.

I've heard that it has the effect of retarding the cam, but I don't know first hand.

yes it retards the, if your just skimming for flatness it won't be that much change.

i was running +2 to +4 on my 531 when i took 1.5mm off it to make it feel normal again

Easily fixed by a $60 cam gear as well, correct?

I suppose you could remove the spark plug from cylinder 1 and insert a thin rod. Turn the crank bolt and make note of what point it reaches tdc and compare that to the timing mark on the crank. Adjust as neccessary with adjustable gear.

it retards the cam roughly 1 degree for every 10 thousandth of a inch shaved. don't have the original head thickness in front of me . adjustable cam gear or re drilling the original gear to compensate is the best way to bring the cam back.

I asked question about original thickness a few days ago, this what I was told:

stock is 146.1mm from the face of the head to where you put the valve cover gasket, minium is listed as 145.6mm. i think i asked them to skim mine to 144.6mm

yea that jives with what I've been feeling, the cam feels pretty retarded. Pulls like mad from 4800+

I've got an adjustable gear, but it's for SQ tooth and I kept the round tooth belts from the 94 motor.
