you can see how the SI6 motor (new 3.2 and T6) is a totally new design which makes it NOT a whiteblock. the bellhousing pattern is different, the block is different, and the accessory placement is retarded, anyway here are some close ups of the new 281hp T6 found in the XC60, new S80 and upcoming in the other XC vehicles. the turbo is a KKK twin scroll, the manifold has a totally different bolt pattern than the B6XX4S/T engines, so no need to gizz all over trying to get one for your 960 +T because it won't work. even if you had the right bolt pattern the turbo has a volvo specific goofy ass 3 bolt triangle pattern, looks like a DSM type flange but it's not. the display motor is all chromed up which is not how it comes on the car they also left some internal parts out, i assume there's no valve train, crankshaft, rods/pistons, in one of the pics you can see there's no head gasket, as in the motor is for display only. got close ups of the turbo and such, everything there is real and complete, they just left the internal stuff out.
since volvo has come to unveil this XC60 to customers, there's a few other things like a seat from a PV to show the 3-pt safety belt, some grilles, displays, stuff like that. i don't have time to sort through these, and/or rotate them so turn your head or something. any questions, please ask. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

That thing is a damn pleasure to drive. It's very smooth and scoots ok for being so heavy.

you should have poured oil on it and went "There. Now it's a Volvo motor" and walked out.

Nissan Murano says what?
In all seriousness, I like it for the most part. But is the tranny the same as the GM sourced garbage from the XC90? |

Who the hell designs these motors? Do they think mechanics have hands the size of a 3 year old or what? Guess the dealers just need to spend $5000 in special tools to work on them...

I actually like it, even though volvo isn't the first thing that comes to mind.

I spoke to a tech that had some experience with them, and he said that replacing the serpentine belt requires completely removing the AC compressor. I guess bolting the compressor back on requires you hit 3 or 4 alignment points perfectly, or else the belt might snap when you start the engine.
I've put a few hundred miles on one and it's definitely a great car. Plenty of scoot, lots of comfort, good visibility, decent gas mileage (for what it is). The city safety thing is not my cup of tea, but it works very well. |

I thought the new T6 was putting out bad mpg numbers?
Additionally, when are we going to see that monster one everyone was talking about when the new I6 engine was announced?

Yea, I'm gonna go ahead and say that's a whiteblock. It sure ain't no redblock. Call it Whiteblock Gen II if you will.

Is it bad that I quite like the XC60? Looks rather nice.

The split-wheels you got on the XC60 in the showroom there are by far the best looking ones
Well, isn't this the type of car what the customers want now? I really hope that it will sell in large amounts to save Volvo! This also feels soo much sportier/sedan like to drive than the XC90... I've only driven the diesels though, but it was a good drive too.

![]() I don't like the retro styling. I would think Volvo would want to be as up to date as possible. And there's a doodilly hanging from the one SUV.

Looks like the engine and transmission would share the same oil if you look at the #12 picture. Definitely looks like something that should please the younger crowd as it is smaller and very smooth flowing unlike the XC90. The interior looks kind of barren though, seems to be the new trend to take away all interior colors and replace them with grey.

About the belt on those SI6's. I was really afraid of that entire set up. I wasn't looking forward to working on them at all.
But I happened to go to school for the automatic's, and we hooked up the break out box to the TF, so we had to pull everything out to get to the connector. The teacher had pulled it all apart before we could, but me and another guy from another dealership, stayed late and helped the teacher re-assemble it. He showed us a few pointers, and a few things that Vida didn't talk about that lots of guys were having problems with. And now after doing 1, they aren't that bad. But it is still too new, and I've only been into a couple in the close to a year they've been out. We haven't had any problems with the engines. I have heard of a few things from other places, but nothing at our store. The new Land Rover LR2 uses the same 3.2L, and we had one with bad rod knock that is getting swapped soon. Thats all. I am looking forward to getting the XC60, I think it could sell well, but Volvo Canada will price it way out of class. Jordan
