In my case it's that I was way more focused on the engine/trans build and install. Diff was irrelevant the whole time the car didn't have a running engine. Remember this motor still only has about 1000 miles on it. Open diff is annoying, yeah, but it wasn't on top of the priority list this summer. I only really started driving it at the end of May and quit driving it mostly for the winter in October. Spent most of that time just enjoying driving again and tinkering on other stuff.

Locker is going into the new diff and will be installed in the next few weeks. This spring should see the more immediate need for it too as the tune gets better and I start running more boost.

I could argue that suspension, weight distribution, and tire size could effect how much you encounter open differential problems. But then again i have not witnessed the so called massive improvements of an lsd/locker over an open dif.

My excuse is that i want an lsd and the price is more than i can afford. lol

For me, I'm not too worried about the diff at this point either. Because it is something that can be easily done. (My situation is a little different because I'm renting a building for the sole purpose of getting the 16vt going.) I can do a diff swap in the summer in the driveway with out too much issue.

Sorry to jump in so late but one quickie: I seem to remember that you installed a spec clutch. I also recall hearing mixed opinions on these things from other dudes. My question is are they grippier than sachs clutches? They are atleast double the price, and for that hella high price, do they live up to the manufacturers claims?

In your opinion, would it be better to stick with sachs or look elsewhere?
Im just hesatant to drop that much money on something that seems like a gamble.

Nothing a m46 couldnt handle. Not trying to go all in as shes my daily ride, just dont like the softness of the sachs.
Thats really my only complaint - no slippage under minimal loads, but its noticeable on steep hills with lots of crap (or people) in the back, but minor.
The majority of material posted seems to poo poo the specs.
However, there isnt really a universal consensus on their performance, but enough negativity to make me worry.
Did you buy one of the wilder 3 or 3+ specs? What was the major drawback? I dont mean to pry, just trying to understand what exactly is out there.

If you're running a stock M46 I wouldn't put anything stronger in than a stock clutch.

HEHE, Im so torn...I can recoupe some cost in selling my G80, or whole rearend, but it would be kinda neat to have to give me a reason to install the 8.8........

I have been thinking of what color to paint my block. Your idea is the most bomb thing i have seen so far. I hope you don't mind me doing the same to mine. By the way, GREAT looking 245!

It'll come out of hiding soon.

I've been using up most my 'project' time lately on house projects. So not much new on the car but my kitchen is lookin' bitchin'!

I did get the rad catch can that Nathan made for me installed and picked up a nice set of e-codes from the Netherlands that I'm debating putting on the wagon. I think I like the rounds on there too much though so the e-codes might be reserved for a different project I've been prepping a few other things for too

Oh, and we made another cheesy video about the project too for IPD customers.

Walked outside today and it was sunny (if only for a moment) so I decided to get the juices flowing in the wagon today.

Cell phone pic to prove it:

2 things I observed today:
I need to work on cold start. Cold out this morning and took about 30 seconds of cranking to get it to go.

Also, 15psi in 5th gear on moderate throttle seems to want to make the clutch slip too. So it's becoming a bit more apparent that I'll be swapping at least the pressure plate eventually. It's a bit unnerving/annoying to be accelerating at 50% throttle in 5th gear and hear the engine suddenly start revving and the BOV start fluttering.

Obviously doesn't mean the car isn't still super fun to drive, but I don't like knowing that it's not going to hold if I stomp on it. If it'll do it now, I am sure it will be useless if I want to turn the boost up to 20-25psi.

The tune on it now feels really good considering. Last time we did some road tuning on it we only really tuned the lower half of the load map in the fuel table, then used the LINK interpolate function and let it do the math for higher up in the load range until the day eventually comes when I can coordinate dyno. Watched the wideband on a few pulls on the drive today and AFRs transition nice and smooth from vacuum into throttle settling at about 12:1 above a couple psi holding that to about 10-15psi. Car stills seems to be the happiest/smoothest at idle though at about 13:1. Cruising on the freeway in 5th at 2500-3000rpm AFRs sit right at 14.5-15:1.

Sounds like you have most of the tuning dialed. Super geil.

So what ideas do you have for pressure plateage then?
