Default Oh My! :-( - High Res Inside!

Had a bit of a lubrication problem over the weekend...
The Engine had 30k+ on tune, was run HARD and had leaned out quite a bit in the last few months (AMM not adjusted since replacement)... At first we thought it was detonation, then we pulled the piston...I will post picks of the block carnage (several large holes) when we pull it. Just a few pics for now...Please forgive me for the dusty bay...

-Reminds me of Terminator2 and the shotgun to the head scene.
Piston face has valve slap marks (exhaust), but head and valves are fine...TG. Piston skirt and cylinder wall is fine too. Pisses me off!
Crank is toast too...
Engine idled nicely with the exception of all the noise.

I tune n/a's...this particular example was a head/peripherials buildup, didn't do anything too heavy to the block. Was running about 11:1 with machining, etc. Anyway, I think this was an oiling problem... the rod cap was melted, as is the crank bearing to rod... I'll post some picks of the intake setup (ports, valve angles, etc...) as we tear down the motor more. All I really need is a block, preferably a b23ft, but I'm not too picky.

Never had this one dyno'd, but the gtech gave us 0-60 in 7.xx and approx. 210hp. For whatever that is worth.

That's what it looks like to me. Seen the same thing on a Kawasaki bike engine when a friend of mine changed down instead of up!!

How fast were you revving it?

I wasn't driving the car... bro was, eeerrr his woman was (for the first time)... so i can only assume. The car supposedly popped on the interstate at 70mph, maybe she knocked the shifter and that was that. I agree with the bolt failure, sounds more probable. If I can gather all the little bits, I may be able to see what happened.

And no, it's not reynolds aluminum foil insulation, it's some type of aerospace approved foil/neo insulation, I had a sheet of it back when this one got built, I was having an arcing problem from ign. wire to injector wire.

But after nearly 5 years of running balls to the wall, I'm happy with the overall outcome. Honestly didn't think this one would last as long.

Time to do up the +T and whatnot that I have contemplated for so long...I think the recently purchased 240 will become the donor, or just throw this head on and drive.

I think you'd probably hear that plenty before the bolt let go. I know when my MR2 spun one it immediately sounded suspect at part throttle.

Yes. Doubt it broke a rod bolt. I mean yeah they broke eventually, but if you had oiling problems that means it probably fragged a rod bearing and then the rod clunked it's way around on the journal until it couldn't take it any more.

These motors aren't known for just breaking rod bolts. Even revving the hell out of them they will turn into a wheezing mess of valve float and just fall on their faces long before they actually rip a rod bolt in two.

Must've sounded like a D24 @ idle with the death rattle going on. At least, if the head's good, you've an SCP head, since that motor's late enough.
