Default June 27th 1/4 drag at Fontana

http://www.autoclubspeedway.com/Tick...b-Dragway.aspx
Info in the posted link

I know the Euro car meet is that day BUT some of us can't or don't want to drive that far. Fontana is a bit closer and cheaper than a drive to San Diego for alot of us, and if you have been following some of the threads in the performance & suspension forum my car beat a Nissan Titan and the dude is talking trash and wants to race again. Here is that race in which I beat him. Watch it till the last race. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/N...eet_643286.htm

There is going to be at least 3 of us going and I would love for some of our faster brickers to come out and show these Titan guys what a true tuned Volvo can do.

Lets hope for an okay turnout!

List on who's going

Might go's

I'm going but I'm gonna be there in my 400E cause my Volvo won't be ready yet.

For the sake of accuracy though we probably should clarify that the Titan dude WAS talking trash....don't know if he still is or isn't. Here is his exact quote from 3/28/09: "Yea it was S/C Warps brothers. I bet him down the track but he ran 9.6 and I a 9.7. Whatever though it was still a lot of fun. Plus it wasnt as bad a that Volvo. they guy though he was so cool I wish I went against him the second time because I would have has him.lol"

760brick90, did you think you were so cool? That quote is so funny.

I have posted over there on their site that the re-match can happen if he still wants it too. And that the rest of them are welcome to come too if they want: http://www.clubtitan.org/forums/showthread.php?t=56237 We don't want them to think we are afraid of them LOL.

I too want to see the Volvos prevail. Maybe we should start a fund so that we can raise the extra $10 that PJ will need to go from a spectator to a participant. I'll kick in $3....if 2 more guys kick in $3, and PJ kicks in $1, he'll be in! Come-on! We might need PJ!

I'm still predicting it's gonna be too warm....let's hope I'm wrong!
Regards, Eric

Just got word at this late hour that a 500E will likely be coming as well. FINALLY! Another MB might make it out! I've been trying to get another older MB out there since last Fall. I'd just about given up on those guys.

I've even politely called out the fastest Titan, seeing as how my best ever 14.476 should be a good race for his best ever 14.477. Can't get much closer than that but they are remaining quiet for the most part. They really hate me now lol. They've even accused my 400E of being a 500E in 400E clothing. Now they'll get to see what a real 500E runs like. I'll bet a few are still gonna quietly show up. For 4 times in a row, they have come...they can't help themselves! Although if it's too hot they'll stay away....heat really slows those things down....no more than any thing else gets slowed down mind you but they THINK they get slowed down even more than anything else does so they stay away. Regards, Eric

Heat affects turbo cars WAY more than a normally aspirated. I know on my 245, it uses the intake temp sensor as one of it's ways to adjust fuel, and the hotter, the leaner the mixture for a given boost. Mind you, it's not a huge lean out, but noticeable when it's 110 outside. On newer cars and ignition controls that are advanced, they retard the ignition as the temps rise as well, and heat does not help an intercooler one bit. Heat soak FTL. Still planning to be there, and I might run if I figure out my MS issue. Might be a one tire fire through the first 8th, but I wanna do it anyways.

They say you need a starter cut off switch. Volvo 240's with a stick shift don't have a starter cut off. Similar to the switch on an auto that wont let you start a car in gear, only in P or N. In my case, I should not be able to start the car with the clutch out, only with the clutch in. I might have to graft one in. Not too hard, but I need to find something, or it is possible they don't really check that close.

I've never taken a stick car there so I dunno. I don't think they will notice or check but I don't want to say that because I want you to be able to run your car when you are there so I would rather you be ready just in case. They are very strict about the clothing though....must wear real pants not shorts, must wear real shoes not flip flops etc.

I accidentally fibbed earlier...the Titan boys have been there 3 of the last 4 including the last 2 in a row. There was one date that was added seemingly at the last minute that hardly anybody showed up for, including the Titan boys. That was the day I got 11 runs in without even trying.

Maybe somebody can do some videos of the runs?

If I get my 240 running this week I'll try to go. I don't think it will be tuned very well by then though.

I'm putting on the new header and wastegate. The welding shop is tig welding the pipes that I tacked together this weekend, so it depends when they are done with it.

It also just has a stock head and t cam right now because the ported head with the bigger cam burned a valve . It idles really smooth at least.

Very doubtful I will drag. Just found out Sunday that I have oil in my coolant. Not a lot, just enough to stick to the sides of my expansion tank. I am not sure I want abuse the car before I figure out what I want to do. Plus, I have no clue as to where the oil is coming from. Could be a cracked head, or blow by at the head gasket. All sorts of stuff and I doubt I have time to pull it apart, get the head checked out and fixed if need be and then back together. This bugs to no end, but would explain my misfires some. The head needs to come off regardless, I just wanted to do it later.

I will attend and help as best as possible. Feel free to use my car as a place to hold all you stuff while you drag. I can tow cars home if they break with my 245ti as well.

Unless TB members are up to helping me get this head off and to the machine shop, then back on. Over the next few days. Maybe pull it Tuesday night, and then back on late Thursday afternoon if the machine shop is quick. I need to make a few phone calls if I did that to see if it is even possible to have a 2 day turnaround. I have put heads on very quickly

Cheers

If I had the time to spare I'd probably use it to try to get my Brick out there instead of the 400E. Besides, I'd probably wind up costing you time anyway with all of my Brick questions.

It's gonna be in the mid 90s. I'm not above saying I told you all so.
I'm only going cuz you guys are all so cool. Regards, Eric

I have the head off, it goes to the machine shop tomorrow, and we'll see if they can bang this bugger out. Has a nasty crack on the #2 cylinder between the valves and I see lots of oil was being ingested by this head. This may get expensive. But if I get it together by friday night and it runs well, I will drag. If I get it together and it runs poorly, or still misfires, I will not drag. Worst case scenario, I cant even drive out, and someone would need to pick me up just to watch.

Cheers
