Default Sac Raceway 7/8

Ok, my car's behaving for the first time in 3 years, so it's time to flog it! Assuming the temps are reasonable, I'm gonna shoot to run 7/8 and hopefully find the need for a helmet.

Anybody else wanna join? 2 weeks notice so no excuses!

Gates open at 4, time trials 5-7, brackets 7-10. $15 to race, $7 to watch. 110* Sunoco is available at the track if you have a container, but I'm gonna throw in some 100 tuesday night.

Who's down to run?

I might make it. Been wanting to take the WRX powered 914 to the strip just to see what it will run before we do the tranny swap.

Bring it on out Thomas! So far I've got an S70T5M that's supposed to meet out there, possibly Justin with his 850, but that's it.

Bring it out, break the tranny, and AAA it home??

Hmm, sounds like between you and the T5M I may have some good competition. Too bad Gwen won't let me run her R yet.....

That's sort of what I did a month ago. Topped it off with 115 octane, cranked up the boost, lined up against a flat black Mopar with slicks, got worked off the line (he was on slicks!), started to catch him in 2nd gear, shifted hard into 3rd gear, then BAM! ..... coasted to the end of the track.

I broke the transmission housing at the rear mounts. A buddy had a construction harness in the trunk of the car, so we wrapped it around the tranny and cinched it tight. That was enough to hold it up into the car for the one hour drive home! I think I have pictures of that:

It's all fixed now, with spare 914 parts. We are collecting up parts to convert it to a Subaru 6 speed transmission. So it's no huge tragedy if I break it again. I'll have to calm down and be careful not to beat the hell out of the transmission again. I just got excited that I might be able to beat that muscle car in his own game, in a car intended to take corners, you know?

Nice!! Hopefully the Superpro order will be in so I can get the rear end rebushed before the track, along with the koni's in the rear to help keep things planted. I'm a little anxious to beat a few more hondayboys at their own game and leave them something to ponder on the drive or tow home.....

You have an Impreza powered 914?

**** man. Is there a documented build anywhere?

I want to do an EJ205 powered 914 so bad... Ever since I got behind the wheel of a 2.0/4 914, I've always wanted to know what it would be like if it had tons of power.

Yeah, I gave my dad my old 914 but kept the 2270cc motor for my old Ghia. He bought an EJ20T engine from a wrecked WRX, and an engine adapter, then my buddy built all the parts to hang the subaru engine in there. My dad had been planning to put a Chevy 350 in it, but we talked him out of it. So he had a Ron Davis radiator kit from when he was going to do the v8 thing. It runs really cool, it's quiet, smooth, and fast enough to be exciting. But it's not too powerful to where it is uncontrollable. It's a great car, and only has about $6000 invested in the whole project, from start to finish.

I don't know about a documented build, but I have a photobucket album with some pictures we took along the way:

http://s255.photobucket.com/albums/h...914/?start=all

If you want more information on the swap, check out 914world and RenegadeHybrids. Outfront Motorsports has a lot of info about the engines also.

914world has info on EJ swaps? Must have missed that.
(I've been a 914world member for some time now, i think a year or two, though admittedly I don't post much, seeing as how I don't own a 914)

Good thing to talk him out of a Chevy 350... V8 in a car like that would be cool, but all the fab work to get it to fit and then the way it makes the car so much more unbalanced just = bad. At least the EJ doesn't weigh tons more than the 2.0/4 in 914s, and fits nicely in their engine bay.

Wow, let's see how many we can get out there guys! I'm tired of being the only Volvo. Let's share the fun of laughing at those who mock us.

To the top guys. Bring em out! Temps in the mid-80's for the highs. Got the wagon all set with full poly so I can load the piss out of it to launch and hopefully keep things on the ground. Traction's gonna be an issue, but with this weather we should have some nice runs. The track was race-prepped a couple weekends back as well so we might have something worth a darn to launch from.

I'll come thru but, not sure if I'm going to run my car though... as of right now I have a christmas tree of lights on my dash(TCS,ABS,CEL)

Car still feels plenty strong but, I don't really have the funds for a tow back to the BayArea

I was going to surprise you and come down to watch the races. But I am getting a surprise visit from my daughter and her family. Grandsons trump all else at this point!! I wanted to check your driving and quiz you about driving my car for me. At nearly 300lbs it is like having a passenger ride for most people. I want to contribute for the West. Plus I had Kyle(kyle240gt)
drive his car then mine and the butt dyno said my B23FT kjet car was close to being the equal of his 230FT megasquirted GT.
I still had the T5Z in the car at the time, so I think it would be faster in a drag now. Having Kyle drive my car made me realize there are much better drivers than me out there, and I do want to see my car do its best.
Good Luck tomorrow night Gary. I hope you hit my birthday wish for you!

We shall see Harry. I'd be nervous about driving your car anyway. Given the condition of the car, and for the most part right now I'm FAR more used to being able to stage an autobox. Given the limited track time on the 140 thanks to a wasted clutch and a need for tuning and spark control, it's seen very little time out there.

Too bad you can't make it. Although....maybe the kiddies would enjoy the show as well??

Sounds like we may actually have a few bricks out there! First drive today with all the suspension stuff is just incredible how much better it feels. I can actually load the suspension instead of compressing the bushings.
