Default Texas Hill Country Meet July 18th

All, join us in a meet at Inks Lake State Park, Burnet, Texas for a Texas Hill Country Turbobricks and Texas Volvo Club Event.

This is going to be a relaxed, enjoyable event where everybody can do their own thing, drive some nice country roads, sit back, enjoy a cool beverage, eat BBQ, so there won't be any official car judging or things like that. Bringing chairs would be a good idea, but picnic tables are provided at the Pavillion.
  • Where: 3630 Park Road 4 West Burnet TX 78611 512/793-2223

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/f...st/parks/inks/ It is 1 hr west of Georgetown (Austin) TX on TX 29, 2 1/2 hrs south of Ft Worth on US 281 to Burnet. 2 1/2 hrs from Houston on US 290.
  • Reservations are set for the group Pavillion for the day use only:
  • http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publicat...p4507_015k.pdf (It is on the peninsula in the center of the map)
  • When: July 18th, 10:00 am -9:00 pm.
  • The fee is $2 each (covers the $20 I puit up for the Pavillion) plus $5 per person at the gate
  • The Picnic Pavillion has accomodations for 25 people and 25 cars, and it is right on the lake, for great picture opps.
  • Activities are swimming, boating, hiking, and cook-out. For the BBQ, several people have expressed a desire to get BBQ at Coopers, which is about 15 min away from the park in Llano, so either take a drive to Coopers or bring your own and cook it on the grill. I will bring some charcoal & BBQ stuff. BYO Beverages, some of us may chip in on a keg, so we can all split the costs.
  • Camping is at your own cost and planning, extra$. I checked and there are a few tent sites available but all the air conditioned cabins are taken.
  • There will be a short Hill Country ride through some nice back roads. I know a loop from Inks Lake to Marble Falls and scenic Buchanon Dam, takes about 1 hr, and let's set it for 2-3 pm on Sat.

Also, look here for previous discussions about the meet:

It's the only group picnic pavilion in the park. IIRC, after you go past the park HQ and pay the $5, you make a sharp right and you go towards the boat ramp.

George, glad to see you can make it!

I dunno, there may be paved roads, you can ride with one of us if you like.

I'm totally down to camp out there. Me and the girl are probably gonna come, and bring a case of beer. Hopefully we can sleep in the wagon. I'll also bring a load of firewood so we can have a fire at night, even though it will be hot. Should we bring vittles?

Come on guys, lets get crunk and go Volvo camping!

Just booked a camp site.
"Site has picnic table, water, fire ring and/or grill.
Sites are located in the south end or 300's loop. "
Up to 8 campers and 2 vehicles, but I'm sure we could stash more. Bring a tent, I'll probably bring 1 or 2 myself.

Lets make this a turbo campout!

We can do something like this for dinner saturday night, everyone can bring something to throw in. Maybe start cooking when it cools off/the sun goes down? I'll bring my roll of commercial heavy duty foil and some meet.

Yeah, it's going to be hot, but not as bad as Dallas. It cools down quickly in the Hill Country.

I plan on getting there sometime around 10:30-11. If anybody gets there before me, just use my name and it should be OK to meet at the pavillion.

I'm bringing my canoe, a 20 lb bag of charcoal, float, bbq tools, a steak, a gallon of iced tea, and still thinking of brinning the big dog, but having been there w/a dog & it's a pain, not dog friendly, and it's hot.

Looking forward to it!

Oh, and as far as "Up to 8 campers and 2 vehicles, but I'm sure we could stash more."
No they are really strict about the rules, and will get on you for more people/cars. They will wake you up at 3 am and ask you to leave/move cars. Don't even think of parking on dirt or grass.

Just come out and drink beer till you don't care where you sleep. It's gonna get down to 76* at night, you'll sleep fine. We can wake up early for coffee and biskits on a stick.
