Default Couple performance questions by 940 turbo n00b :)

My current car is a 1991 volvo 940 turbo wagon. I'm pretty new to these cars but not new to volvos... (former t5 owner)
I am wondering:
1. will the 960 3" mass air sensor housing plug and play with my car to help open things up?
2. will the 850 turbo orange top injectors plug and play with my car?
3. with the stock ecu, to what extent will I be able to tweak boost using an MBC?
I live in the US, so my 91 940 turbo is running the 13c turbo, 165hp stock I believe.

thanks for all your help.

The 3"amm is pointless unless you upgrade to 46lb+ injectors at the same time as fuel maps will be way off.

The oragne ijnectors will fit but are smaller and HiZ and not work well with the factory low impedance setup.

You can turn the boost up just fine as with the stock turbo you will not hit the fuel cut.

But if you want more power look into getting a set of chips from me, and then if you plan on upgradeing injectors and amm the chips will adjust and can relearn and work really well for you.

Also a larger downpipe( I sell those and full exhaust systems also) along with an intercooler upgrade and maybe even cam and turbo upgrade depending on your goals and budget

Chips run around $200 for the pair

Figure $185 for a downpipe or around $500+ for the full exhaust

add in $200 or so for a cam

And since you already have an intercooler that setup alone would be tons of fun.

Add in a $250-450 new or used 15G and you have an easy 13 sec car

Add in $200+ for injectors and then another $200-500 for all of those little things you never expect to spend

Get Mike's Chips they are amazing! and the 6800 RPM Rev limiter is insanely fun. Also they get rid of fuel cut and help you run more boost!!!!

It sounds like our setups are gonna be around the same. So it should be fun to see who makes more POWARRR!!

Also it's been a while since I've soldered. I assume I should always be using a small heat sink or are these boards and components pretty tough? I think I will be talking with thelostartof for chips eventually as he was the first to help me out and I have heard good things. So if I'm correct, skip on the larger injectors prob for now, just get chipped, open up the exhaust and get a high flow panel air filter and we should be off to the races.... Thanks

If you can dig up a set of Brown Tops for now it wouldn't hurt, Personally I always found these cars to run a bit better with larger injectors over stock. so something in the 37-40lb/hr range at 3bar fuel pressure

so the brown tops flow less or more vs. the orange-ish ones from an 850 turbo? I can grab a set of orange tops for 40 bucks. Also I can get a reclocked 15G for around 150, is that a good deal? I will let you know when I want the chips, prob within a week or two.

The 15g is only worth it if it is for sure good and usable, This mean non smoking or wheels hitting the housing.

The orange tops like i said flow around the same as stock and are not worth it.

Google or search here for Brown top injectors. Otherwise new I would look into some 42lb/hr injectors but then again it depends on your goals and budget for the car on what size injectors to buy as you only really want to buy a new set once.

Let me know if you need any help on figuring out stuff on the chips and I will do what I can to help

I love my electronic boost controller! I can be driving around the street at 10psi and then when its time to go big i can go up to ~17(which is what im running on my high boost setting) and bam! I can even up the boost while running. (its fun it feels like NOS lol) My girlfriend calls it hyperspeed.

I can play with the boost settings inside the car while im driving which makes it real easy to tune.

Here in California we get pretty hot summer days and so running 17PSI makes me ping some so I can easily just dial it down a bit and then turn it back up at nighttime when its a bit cooler out. Without having to pop the hood =)

I came from the t5 world so I just ran my old speedtuning tune and let it do all the work as far as adjusting boost i haven't ever really worried about it, so I will have to look into getting a mbc vs. ebc. I know the electronic boost controller can help smooth things out a bit and prevent some spiking if I'm not mistaken?

Well mine doesn't spike at all at low boost. At high boost it spikes a bit. I think its maybe because of my horrible exhaust system and the 15g wastegate.
