Default Paint Touchup

I recently purchased a spray can of touchup paint from automotivetouchup.com, medium yellow, Volvo paint code 128. After painting a test area it is a perfect match to my car’s single-stage paint job.

I want to spot-correct about 5-6 defects about 1” x 1”, and then the 2 feet of the rocker panel on the passenger side. Any advice on preparation and painting? I have 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit paper, as well as some 300, paint tape and newspaper, and the rattle can. I have rubbing compound and polish. I want to blend in and correct repairs – I’m not a perfectionist, but want to make it look nice. I’m also not an expert but can follow instruction. Advice?

What I found worked even on my later graphite metallic, was multiple coats of primer applied thinly with fine wet sanding in between. I masked off the areas surrounding what I needed to prime in this case. Afterwards, without masking, I carefully applied several (3 or 4, depending on necessity) coats of the paint, feathering towards the edges of the primered area. Be sure to do this in light coats, and use as many as necessary, because the paint may start to drip or run if you use too much at once. I did some light sanding in between the first coats, applying just paint to blend in later coats.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist and wanted to make my 240 look as good as possible, and I'm happy with the results that I got on my door.

Edit: More or less, if you take anything away from this, light coats, use as many as necessary, lightly sand in between with 1000+ grit sandpaper until the later coats, feathering towards the edges of your primed area.
