Default Rally of the Tall Pines #2 (legit Volvo content this time)

So I went to the Rally of the Tall Pines again this year as media for Vibrant Performance. That means we can go anywhere and had Full access to anything. There was a 240 rollin' in it this year, so I get to show in real show room this time! We basically stood in the same areas as last year because they were so sweet, but we saw 6 different stages, gotta be a record cause we were everywhere! We also got to push start L'estage for him after he exited the very last run using only his starter. Very unfortunate for him as he was first all day I believe and because his clutch blew out he lost pretty much everything he was going to win, which was everything. I could talk forever about the day because it was so amazing this year, but I won't... onto the pictures!

I've got lots of pics, but I don't seem to have as many good ones as last year, but I will continue to edit some to get a few more good shots, but thought I would rep the 240 in this thread first and add more as I get to them.

Crunch!

Of Course the last run we went to we decided to watch the start. It was amazing, but obviously I would forget my tripod. This was the best shot I got haha

And one more of the 240 for TB.

Looks like a good time! 240s are great rally cars. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Added more

-If anyone wants larger pics for background or anything, let me know, some have been cropped though so not every picture will be as big as 2000x1000

-Also the slower cars pics didn't seem to turn out as nice, Ill keep looking at them to see if anything is salvageable.

John V, any of your cars run this year?

Might load a gallery, im just using my moms site at the moment because I don't want to renew mine. might throw all the unedited ones onto photobucket.

No, I don't work at vibrant, its kind of a, My friend knows a guy who knows a guy, and vibrant doesn't go to the rallys anymore because that guy lives in BC now, so we asked if we could go for them so we could get media passes. My friend is kind of getting his foot in the door, hopefully we all can, because we want to start our own car, and want to see if they will sponsor us.

Well it just seemed like a pretty useless/tasteless/nonconstructive comment to be posting in this thread, thanks.
videographer/cinematographer is that your profession?

Considering theres a big difference between pressing record on a camera and following a car around a corner, and trying to capture the movement and excitement in a photograph, I'll assume you have some constructive criticism to contribute? If not, keep your negative comment to yourself, as it doesn't help me in anyway.

damn, the nature looks so much a like How many took part in that rally? 100 - 150 cars? Where there any more RWD cars?
And taking pictures in a rally safely is hard. As you can't get to great places to take pictures for safety reasons. I think he did well with them.

Here are some my pics.

I think there was only 51s car in it, as for RWD there was a 240sx, rx7.. umm possibly more, but not too many RWD.

The marshals are pretty strict in yelling at people and kicking them off, but we were like 3 of 15 people with a full media pass, so basically they couldn't tell us where to not go, they could only tell us when to not go, if that makes sense. Its funny getting the worst looks from people when you drive down the rally roads and 000 has already rolled through. Good feeling though.

The one corner where the cars are coming from the left. We're borderline no safe zone, one of the cars actually love tapped that stop sign rolled along the edge of the grass maybe 3 feet infront of me, I couldn't tell until I looked at the pictures right after how close, but my friends stepped back after that cause they were getting really close. I see now you can't see the stop sign in any of my pics. but just to the left of the frame I added there was a stop sign, thats what I'm talking about.

Your pics look sweet, I wish I had more light, it was pretty overcasty all day. I also wish I had a better flash setup so I could actually get night shots. You're using a zoom lens right, or just cropping? I'm still just using the 18-55mm lens that came with my rebel. I want to upgrade pretty badly, but I also want to upgrade actual camera, something with a faster FPS.

I was using 14-45 wideangle for night shots and 40-150 tele for the daytime shots. In here you can't drive on a rally SS road 1 hour prior to the race. I saw one team flip there car 4,5 times over in front of me. Lost the rear wheel.
Most of my pics are taken when the cars come down the same straigth as in the vid.

We also finished 3rd Grp 5 (only 3 finishers in class) This was my first event in 15 years and the first time I got to push the car at all. We were running to finish and to shake down the car and we accomplished that.

Next time we'll be faster but the goal is always to finish.

Can you write information about the car?

Congrats on finishing!

It was a tough tall pine this year! I hope to join you in a near future!

2010 should be a year of rallycross and building the car, but I'd really want to join the big boys in 2011.

Congrats, gotta rep the volvos!
We were the guys at the B4 Start on the right. In case you remember that. I was excited to see a volvo 240 had entered when I was reading the car list.

I'll try to give you some of the highlights for now and will try to fill it out a bit in the future.

The car is an 83 244 that was originally built for rallying in Calgary. I purchased the car in May and have been working on it since.

The car has a B21FT with a mitsu turbo. The EMS is completely MegaSquirt installed and set up by Matt Dupuis in Calgary. When I brought it to FourStar for Dyno and tuning, the boost was fluctuating so we could not tune the timing and it is quite retarded to be safe. The car still generated about 170HP at the wheels on the Dyno.

The front suspension is JVL front struts and the rear is RSport Rallye springs with Bilstein shocks.

Since getting the car to Ontario, I have had the cage rebuilt to FIA specs, replaced the seats with Sparco EVO3's and replaced the belts to 2009 manufacture date.

The car currently has the stock M46 with OD in every gear (except reverse ) but that will be upgraded to the Getrag 5 speed (dogleg pattern) that is in the garage.

The rear diff is a TruTrac LSD coupled with gears that are about 3.73 or higher. It was tough to find a gear to keep the revs up in the torque curve. The gears will be changed to the set of 4.88's that I have in stock and that with the transmission should be a stump puller combination.

Other mods to come will be an electronic boost controller so that we can put it on the dyno again.

I've added a few pics from the car as I purchased it. I'll add more documentation later.
