Default Short notice! So Cal Auto Club Dragway Jan 09 2010!

Sorry about the short notice but it's not my fault! The stupid track just posted their 2010 calender on Monday the 28th of Dec. and I just found out about it a few minutes ago! We have to go to this for three reasons: 1) The next track day for us isn't until April! http://www.autoclubspeedway.com/Tick...of-Events.aspx , 2) Cool weather = better E/Ts, 3) Short notices like this always hurts the turnout--- the place will be ours! Lots of runs! Even Josh will like it and come up (right Josh?)

L8, because I'm not being given enough time to finish the other cars I'm working on, I'm gonna have no choice but to fall back on "Benzer 3" which means if you can come to the track on the 9th and bring your 850, we'll be able to have that close racin' we talked about!
Regards, Eric

I might be in. How many runs do you think we will get?

Edit- Do they check your clutch pedal for a safety switch because 740/940 doesn't have one!

I'm training with the good ol' 163d Ordnance Company that weekend!

However...April will be the debut of the project car, and it's maiden track voyage.

3 to 6 runs is my guess. And no, they barely check anything. Especially if it's a Volvo. lol. Make sure your battery is tied down and you aren't spewing fluids. That's most of it right there. Don't forget license, registration, and proof of insurance!

ZVOLV, The last time they had a short notice day like this, I got 11 runs in and I didn't even get there till past 12 noon! Don't forget about the dress code. No racing flip-flops, no racing shorts!

PJ, Tahoe is always gonna be there. Change your plans!

Texas, Skip the hair washing! I did the last time we had a track meet! Couldn't you tell?

Guys, I'm telling you, these short notice days are the best! Very low turn-outs.....You have to see it to believe it. Try to be there!

L8, could you post a link to your Corrado's ad?
Regards, Eric

I just got my 240 running again. It needs to be re-tuned, so it may not be running perfect, but it would be interesting to see what it can do. I've never drag raced before.

My car doesn't have a neutral safety switch either, hopefully they don't check that.

I think I am going to have to come and slip my clutch down the track.

Do they sell race fuel there?

I don't know if they do.

Just do a 25% toluene solution in the tank and call it done. Seriously, it's an additive in higher octane fuels!

I'm upset I can't wear my racing sandals...

I have a brain bucket but won't be needing it.

My car really liked the 100 octane I put in it last time. At $7/gal can't drive to LA and back.

My mobile can't load that website very well. What city is the track in ?

Yes, but it would be cheaper to run a few gallons of E85. Next cheapest would be the Toluene (you can run up to 30%). Race gas would cost the most.

L8's right, 30% toluene is cool. I was just being conservative since it's not my car.
L8, where's that Corrado ad?

Funk that paint store vodoo or running corn juice. I just wanna run some straight up 100 octane. I'm pulling the chips out of my car this weekend so I might hit fuel cut.

I really want to come up there for this! I haven't run a quarter mile in about 5 years back when Carlsbad was open and I ran a 15.2 with my open diff 740 and 13c at 13psi and VX cam.

Hasn't Carlsbad been gone for more than five years? The 13.63 in my sig was run at Carlsbad.

L8, I just came up with an excuse for you: Tell them you have the Swine Flu!

Sorry L8, he's sporting wood for a knappy VR6. Isn't the VR6 an iron block engine? Doesn't that make the car kind of nose heavy? At least heavier than your iron block 4 cylinder is? It's really too bad too cause it seems to me like your car is a smoking deal....way less money than what's in the car. He also said he would want at least some of the interior pieces to come with the car so he doesn't have to hunt them down. Do you have any of that stuff? I understand that the car is a track whore but it's also currently licensed right? Which means it has the potential to be a cool dual purpose car! I know we are O.T. here but I checked with the O.P. and he's cool with it.

Those of us who are going on Sat. need to exchange cell phone numbers. Mine's (951) 264-7937.

The first person there should try to get us a spot as far west as possible, as near to the staging lanes as possible.
Regards, Eric

Tags are good thru May '10 and there are no fees on the car. It's totally legal, just needs a cat to pass smog. VR6's are good power plants, but unless it's boosted, a bolt-on VR6 won't keep up with a bolt-on G60. The G60 is cheap and easy power up to 180whp, and still relatively cheap and easy up to 200whp, but at that point the head really chokes up that little 1.8L. It's a counter flow head; the intake and exhaust is on the same side of the head, so the air has to do a U-turn in the head. To get over 200whp, you either need another form of boost (other S/C or relatively big turbo) or you swap the head (2.0L 8V cross flow or 16V head). 250whp is pretty rare in an 8V G60; they are maxxed out at under 300whp typically.

G60 handles better as it weighs about 180 lbs less than the VR, and over 100 lbs of that is in the nose (engine weight). G60 also is faster in 5th gear roll-on acceleration runs because of the TQ curve. But a G60 will never sound like a VR6!

I'm actually about to drive her right now; meeting someone who is looking to possibly buy it. Plenty of people parting out Corrados on Vortex all the time. Interiors are easy to come by.

I also still think that another advantage to a crossflow head is that you don't have an exhaust tract sitting there right next to the intake tract heat sinking/heat soaking it. Same for the exhaust ports to intake ports relationship.

My buddy thinks he is gonna turbo a VR6. Yeah right. I've been gonna turbo this, that, and the other for 20 years now, still haven't gotten any of them done yet. Life get's in the way. He really would be better off with your car but talking him out of a VR6 will be about as easy as talking the average guy out of that hot 19 year old that we all know is no good for him. Make a video of your new/old Volvo spanking your buddy's turbo VR6 so we can show it to my buddy so he can see the error of his ways.
Regards, Eric

The Corrado sold!

And in an odd coincidence, there's a 19T on it's way to my house that told me he wanted to spend the rest of his life attached to a whiteblock...
