I got new Mickey thompson ET drag last year in the 26 x 8.5 x 15 size. Before I ran those massive 28x9x15's and Greg's Ervin's 24x8x15's. I think the 26x8.5x15 fit a 740 the best. I put them on 7 inch aftermarket Enki wheels.
![]() This is me at the track with the 28x9x15 tires on the car. I put wagon springs in the back to jack it up so the tires would clear. It was real tight that was why I went with a smaller tire. ![]() This is a close up of the 26x8.5x15's on the car. ![]() wide shot with the 26x8.5x15's.

Looking like my first round is gonna be with the 850. How does it work if I have 2 cars, again?! One FWD and one RWD. Will it just be the quicker one out of the two that counts for points at the end of the year?

Correct. One turbo car in the turbo class, one NA car in the NA class, and one Hybrid in the Hybrid class per owner. Each class competes with itself for points, so there's an East or West winner for each class(boo).

As an update, and to further my benchracing career, I drove the blue car the other day for the first time in 8-9 months. It felt... Slow. Even at 25 psi and running perfectly. I have been dailying the 850 for what, 6 months now? That means that it's significantly faster than the blue car. That's good for my trap speed hopes ![]() The blue car ought to realistically be about a 101-102 mph trap these days, what with the angle-outlet housing compared to the conical and all (plus a few pounds less boost fade to match). That means that unless my highly experienced seat of the pants dyno is way off, the 850 should pull off a pretty solid trap as it is. NA cams, a nice intercooler, and some dyno tuning, and the 850 could well make itself into something special ;)

Eric, glad I'm not the only FWD lover. That 850 really is just a joy to drive! Mine should be running in a couple days with a new head and 19T and N/A cams...I trapped over 98mph prior. Hoping to be well over 100 now.
Since I get one entry for each of the 3 classes, I'll have to run the '85 740 N/A. lol. Might be good for a low 19! The 240 needs too much stuff right now, I'm taking a break from it for a little while. |

70% chance of rain and a very sick pregnant fiancee means that tonight is not a track trip for me. Ahh, the days when I would have driven up there just on the off possibility that it would have been dry still.. Not anymore

14.5 at 105... Boooo hisss!! Got some bad stuff going on with the front suspension, had some horrific hop and and I'm really glad nothing broke. Babied it on the next two runs (last was my best time, they were all 14.5 at 104-105 though). 2.5 and 2.6 60 foots... Car was literally in 100% daily driving form, showed up at the track and ran, all the crap in the back seat and trunk as usual (floor jack, tools, full size spare, fishing tackle and rods, etc). So I can say I drive a 105 trap car to and from work every day, and have that power being delivered every time I floor the car
Need to fix the front suspension and try again sometime with stickier tires with a little more aggression. |

Yeah the car moves pretty well, just couldn't get it off the line without the front suspension trying to self destruct. Once I fix it all up it should be ready for mid-13s. May dyno tune before then though, in which case it could be a little faster... And we'll have a numerical comparison of trap-WHP for manual 850s
![]() It wasn't really in track form last night, but I'm pleased with the trap. I was dreading like 99-101 traps or something. On a side note, my old setup that ran 13.3 at 107.4 only picked up I think 22 mph in the last 1/8 mile... This setup picked up 24-25 mph Last edited by EricF; 02-11-2010 at 10:13 AM.. |

[QUOTE=thelostartof;2901781]105.92mph @ 18psi with a slow launch, two boost leaks(maybe more as the TPS is one, HKS SSQV has one at the rear nut which needs a new o-ring, and the hot side IC hose on the turbo was coming off as I found this out this am) and no idea what afr's are as the WB is still freaking out, I swapped in a new one and it still is odd so I am updating firmware and then going back to figuring out why it seems to be down on power up top.

12.4 @107... Slicks FTW
![]() Car is pretty basic, 200k mile 91 b230ft short block, 89 760GLE 16v head, Chinabay "50trim", 90+ mani, yoshifab exhast adapter, yoshifab intake manifold, evo8 ic, MSnS, E85,moded g80, and some M&H slicks. Because we only have one freakin track in socal I was only able to get 3 passes. The first pass I bogged hard off the line and ran a 13.2@107 with a 2.1 60'. 2nd pass I launched it too high and lit up the slicks and cut an all too familiar 2.5 60' with a 13.7@105. 3rd pass, I aired the slicks down to 15psi, did a much longer burnout and ended up cutting a 1.6 60' and running a 12.4@107. The car and drive both have more left, just need some more track time.

316whp three days prior, dyno was 1500ft lower than the elevation of the track. Probably right at, or close to 300whp for todays runs.

Good runs in that beast! Though it should have some more trap speed in it for a 16V! I think Mike is trapping 107 in a stock 8V head. I was about 4mph shy myself, not sure what to attribute that to. I'm not willing to bend rods to keep trying though. lol! I think the DD wagon is retired from track duty for a while! |

Keep in mind this car is on a stock 90+ mani with an adapter plate, stock cams, and a knockoff mystery turbo. The issue currently is that we are out of fuel pump on e85. Once that is resolved, we can continue forward with more boost/tuning. My driving also sucks, I spent a good amount of time scratching my ass on the 1-2 shift and sat on the rev limiter for the 3-4 shift (I should invest in a tach). Im sure that a few more runs would have us a bit deeper in the 12s and a higher MPH. All in all pretty happy to drag that number out of it in 3 passes.

Walbro 255 feeding the stock pump. I would be able to go a lot further on race gas with that setup but im going to continue playing the e85 game. Dual 044s and some -8 hose are on the shelf waiting to go on.

For the price difference alone, I'd stay E85! it's just so much cheaper. What kind of AFR's are you targeting?

You can buy a lot of 110 leaded for the $400 I have in fuel pumps. While it is cheaper, you burn a lot more of it per mile so it works out to not so cheap. For making power on a supposedly fragile bottomend, I like the safety margin of e85 over dino gasoline.
