Alright, so some may have seen my thread....

http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=206494

...with this car for those that cant be bothered to click the link...(and because showroom = pictarr threads!)

Basically, to quickly summarize it, its getting minted, twin weber 40s on its original B21 along with a rebuild, some mild head work and hot cam, a decent exhaust system, the usual suspension upgrades, an early single rounds front end amongst plenty of other stuff....

So basically, have a skim through the pics in the thread i linked to, and suggest me some modifications (i have a crappy imagination). Visual, performance, whatever - id like to hear it to give me some inspiration and ideas.

Thanks

(by the way, that pic is an edit with the car lowered to how i want it if possible)

Yeah ive got an airdam for it, got both of the styles that fit commandos but i cant make my mind up which one to fit.

Was considering tucking the bumpers just a tiny bit (to about the same level as the later bumpers...)

I just wouldn't do much to the outside of it... I'd hate cutting up a car as clean as it, and one thats been in the family as long as that one has..

The bumper screams "REPLACE ME!". That's all I can think about. Maybe if I put some tape on my screen...

Thanks Rupert, yeah got both styles of airdam, im tempted to try the more sporty one (similar to the later air dam) with some small rectangular volvo fogs, but i dont think itll work because it upsets the profile of the air dam on a 3/4 view IMO.

Already got galaxies...dont think i want tints as I think its too "boy racer saxo" lookalike, and not period, unless it was a very very faint blue tint...

Headlights - I would consider the rectangular TV screen headlamps, but the downside is that they are relatively hard to find, especially in good condition (and im wanting decent light output). The reason im taken by the (very) early single round setup is that, they arent too hard to find, and I would hope to find some aftermarket lights that would fit the bezels that I could fit a HID kit to or something along those lines...

Im definitely 110% keeping the original engine, and ive already got my weber 40s, but otherwise yeah. Whats a H cam like? What models did they come in? I know the whereabouts of a VX cam if those are any good? Thats what would have come in the volvo performance head kit....and ive already got electronic ignition.

Thanks for the comment.

Less is more; I'd get rid of the red and white reflective tape on the bumpers. It does nothing for the look. Personally I think the snow cap looks horrible. I'd get rid of the badges on the grille and I'd lose the mudflaps. I'd also swap the side light lenses for all white lenses. And I'd add set of the big rounds headlights and the matching grille with the inbuilt fog lights.

I agree with everything, except, don't fit the grille with extra foglights, after all, less is more....

Did anybody say chrome mirrors already?

If not: chrome mirrors!

I like the front headlight/grill setup the way it is

Thumbs up

I like the HL ,grille & turns just as they are. Like the wheels too.

I would lower with the new IPD lwering springs, adjustable torque rods and panhard rod, ans a set of Billys HDs, & then do your engine mods.

I'd leave the Commandos on it, because the later 86=93 chrome trim won't fit the Commando 240s valance.

It'll look better the way it is now with the Commando bumpers IMHO. I think Commandos are cool, but then it seems I'm the only one here that likes them.
That's a nice 240, leave the body AS IS!

Yeah the bumper stripes are coming off. I do think they look good on the car with the previous "classic" look, but on a more sporty model I wouldnt even hesitate to take them off. I am in 2 minds about whether to put silver ones all round though, like the 1980 GLT and the 242GTs had.

Im keeping the snow cap, I like it, although I may paint it body colour.

The badges came off the grille long ago!

Not sure on losing the mudflaps - I think they play a big part in serarating it from the laer 200s, plus they will protect the brand new paint when its done. Ive not had them fitted for a few months (since having the rear end bodywork done) and ive had about 3 nasty stone chips in that time.

I think I might go with clear leanses actually, because I think im going to do the bumpers black (again, like the sporty models, but im not sure whether satin or gloss) and I think the all blacked front end along with some silver bumper stripes and the clear lenses would look pretty good.

Yep, its going to get the early single rounds front end, not sure about foglight grille though.

Thats a sweet idea. I might just do that. Yeah I actually do like the current front end, but only when you look at it from an angle. Straight on looks just toooo square if thats possible! haha! I think the rounds look good from an angle, and from straight on.

See above about front end. Yeah Im going to try my best to get some IPD anti-roll-bars, but im on a budget and they are hard to get to the UK, so I might go with twin ARBs for the time being and keep an eye out for some IPDs when some pop up on ebay already in the UK. Ive already got Koni reds on the back, so im going to get those for the front too I think. Definitely getting lowering springs, maybe not IPD ones though. Whats special about them? Are the progressive?

I also think commandos are cool, and they are definitely staying, probably getting painted black though, and possibly very slightly tucked.

It'll be cheaper to get a set of springs wound in the UK, they're not big money. I wouldn't bother with the rear IPD bar, just the front one is fine.

Thats interesting, ive been told that having a thicker bar up front that at the back could have adverse effects on the roll centre and stuff, would a rear bar not be worthwhile? Im not cutting corners at all on this project, as far as im concerned itll be the best 200 series in the UK when its done. I have no time limit (wont be able to insure it for a good 4 or 5 years anyway...) and in having no time limit it means (to a certain extent) i can save up for whatever the car may need
