Default 1981 Yellow 242 Build thread

Before I get too much further along owning this car, I figure it's about time to get the "before" shots uploaded.

Unfortunately, a bit of cancer:

When the local indy took a look at it, he said that he also noticed what looks like a second floorpan welded in over the original. I'll have to get the seats out and pull up the carpet at some point...

I'll get some engine and interior shots soon. Here's a shot from the PO, just before I bought the car:

Yeah, intake and valve cover were bead blasted very recently. When he was looking at the car, my mechanic noticed a small power steering leak. He said that he only noticed the leak because everything else was so spotless.

looks good, I'm going through a major restoration of my 84 242; looking at the pics of the engine and trunk brought back memories of my purchase day this past May. Best of luck with your rebuild...!

Is that the same yellow 242 that was on craigslist?

This interior is (was?) black. The door panels and rug look good, the seats are pretty faded but solid, and the rear deck is almost completely sun bleached.

No, this one was originally posted on Swedespeed, by VolvoBob. I vaguely remember that other ad. I was trolling craigslist pretty hard before I found this one.

Glad to hear that what I thought was significant body work needed isn't too bad in the context of other 240s.

Although when I contemplated the idea of doing body work, this popped into my head:

I'll blame it on the low lighting Looks like a very clean body! Still deciding if I like the look of the TV screens more or less than the US spec.

It's pretty clean, I think because it only ran 105.000 kms (60.000mls) I like the way it looks now (I think the TV screens look good :P) recently bought myself a set of MSW rims to spicen it up a bit :P

Really think it's gonna look great

Did she have the same kind of interior?

I recently purchased some MSWs from goldbrixx and pictures were requested:

Very happy with the new wheels. I also deleted the mud flaps right around the same time. Now if I could only do something about the monster truck ride height.

Also, anyone in the central NJ area have shop they'd recommend for patching the rust just in front of the driver side cheek? All of the body shops that I've called so far don't want anything to do with rust repair and really seem to only do collision work...
