What model year did it come out of and more specifically to my needs: is the Corvette fuel pressure regulator shown in post #40 a 45psi or 65psi unit? If not a 65psi unit do you know of one.

I have sent a couple days of phone calls and hours searching forums trying to find a 65psi mechanical regulator that connects like yours. Everyone wants to start with the MY, make, model and engine. Computers have eliminated personal knowledge from the automotive industry.

Thanks for the info.
The engine is a 5.3l out of a 2001 gm truck. It is the same LS platform as all of the other 4.8- 6.2 litre cars and trucks.

The fuel filter is a filter/ regulator combination and is widely used in this swap for the returnless fuel rail at the injectors. The fuel filter is from a 1999 corvette and is available at every auto parts store, almost always in stock there, usually around $40.00. The filter/ regulator puts out 58 psi to the fuel rail as that is what the stock system was designed around.

There is also a regulator that you can use that has an inlet, an outlet and a tank return line from aeromotive that has a spot for a guage to dial in the fuel pressure to the fuel rail. It works well but really takes away from the OEM look I was going for. I do think it would be less BS messing with the fittings than the corvette filter regulator combo as it has the quick connect style fuel fittings.

On a side note, I replaced all the rear suspension with IPD adjustable uppers, new adjustable panhard bar and corrected the pinion angle. Not only did this allow me to recenter the rear axle under the car, it got rid of all that nasty wheel hop and allowed me to finally "drive" the car.

Took it over to Cars and coffee on saturday and hung out with some Volvo peeps. Since the weather was nice I had it out pretty much all day on saturday running errands and working out a few of the last little details.

Hooked up the backup lights to the tranny so that everything works as factory and spent a bit of time wiring in a switch for the reverse solenoid so that anyone can drive the car without having to muscle it into reverse. I used a stock rear demist switch for the reverse solenoid and polished off the logo so its just a plain switch with a brown light on it. Works great.

Need to figure out the temp issue. It gets warmish on the stock guage at idle in traffic but I need to get a read on actual engine temp this week.

Spent a little time cleaning it all up and its nice to not be working on it every night. Although I hate the look of the car, it is pretty funny to see the look on peoples faces

Its pretty damn fun to drive, needs a lsd in the back for sure, but it will still get sideways and light the tires up in pretty much any gear. Even Pat who thinks its all wrong had to smile a little bit when we were screwing around on the way home from dinner. Rolling at 35-40 and just light the rear tires up. You cant help but smile.

Now for some small bumpers and some legit wheels and tires......and a flat hood and single rounds.

NONHOG- Lets see your swap? I love to work on stuff so what you got going?

I have something here at work for you today that will help with that

I vote these:

Oh, and also -- I'll have a electric speedo style rear end cover with speed sensor pick up for you too in a day or two if you want it? Don't have a matching speedo, but that's easy.

Have build threads in a few places but this one is most recent. http://brickspeed.net/forum/showthread.php?tid=1784

Today I'm sending the driveshaft out for Ford/Volvo marriage.Currently working on head pipes.
Much of what I'll be struggling with is lack of familiarity with the Volvo.
Even with the Converse wire patch there is just enough left to intimidate me.
One step at a time. I'll get it.
I'm new to Volvo's and to Ford's. Great way to learn!
It'll be less mysterious now that I have a FSM for both car and engine. (see thread)
If it ever works out I'd love to have someone who's been there help keep me pointed in the right direction.

*Now back to our regularly scheduled thread*

What's truly amazing is that it was done in a month! My objective is to finish within 3 years and I have to hurry.

You suck. Last thing I want to do is this G80 swap I'm staring at now and you want me to watch you do yours tonight too?

Kyle bitched me out last night for letting it just sit here.

"Rolling at 35-40 and just light the rear tire up." Fixed it. Now you have to fix it.

Awesome project. What about a GT front airdam to fix the overbite?

You suck!!!.......the funny part about that, is that it will still light up both rear tires from a roll and pitch the car sideways.

I was all ready to throw it in last night but got cold feet about getting in done in time for the dyno tomorrow.

Going to strap this thing on the Dyno tomorrow and see if we can get some tuning done on it to wring out some power and clean up the tune as its really rich. Should have some numbers on the HP after lunch as long as it all stays in one piece.

I will have to look at the GT Spoiler and see if that might get me by for a while. Are they hard to come by?

Ansel- Those are some great pics!! I have a D-40 that I use to shoot real photos with but its so much easier to take with the phone and upload to snapbucket. Maybe you can take some good pics of it one day when its done.

I don't know how hard they are to come by, you're in the the right part of the country to find old volvo parts. Here's a picture showing a regular 240 front airdam (left) and a GT one (right):

I've always liked the GT spoiler.

How did you mod the Volvo tach to work with the new combo Sean?

MH....I have a sweet clock in my cluster

I really am leaning towards the Innovate motorsports wifi setup and using my iphone. It will be dead accurate and give me things like voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature vehicle speed and all wirelessly through an i phone or an ipad. I even thought about permanantly mouting something all stealth like to use. Might be a little high tech but would be super cool.

I was pretty happy when I got back from lunch today and had a giant box from Jegs on my desk (People at work are constantly asking what I am workign on now.)

Inside was two new coil covers for me to play with and see if I liked the look.

I was suprised when I got everything home just how close they were to fitting on this bastardised motor.

This was just setting one on there to see what it was going to hit. A little bit of trimming on the passenger side so that I could tuck the throttle cable under the cover and that side clipped on nicely.

THe drivers side was a bit more trimming to fit around the booster, but some tin snips and a rotary bit on the die grinder and it was soon fitting nicely.

Much cleaner on the top side, but I am not 100% sure that I like the red or the corvette. Might either do the red in blue to match the car, smooth out the covers and shoot them body color, or even do a wrinkle black finish on them to really make them look oem.

What say you TBers? What do you think about them?

Motor looks like it has wings now! My vote would be to fill the lettering smooth and shoot them in wrinkle black to match the intake. I think that will keep the OEM look you're going for the best.

Overall I think it looks much cleaner with the covers on to clean up the wiring and ignition coils.

I've always thought coil packs were more interesting to look at than Plastic covers...

but I could definitely see the corvette covers working out with a little more finishing.

I'd go more subtle, like changing the displacement to 5.3 on the cover instead of 5.7...

Big single turbo. Passenger side with a crossover from the drivers side. When I built the motor mounts I made sure I left enough room for a 3 1/2" pipe to tuck down in there.

Want to get the tune done and get the cooling and temp stuff all sorted out first.

The setup will probably be a single gt45 or a master power 76mm. Should be an easy 550 to 600 HP.

As far as the coil covers I have thought a lot about it. Thinking of doing just a raised Volvo logo similar to the emblems on the side of a late model impala or a SS pickup.

Then get rid of the corvette make Em smooth and mate the two together.

Showed up to the tuning shop today to get some time on the Dyno right on time.

They had me fill out some paperwork on mods to the car....I laughed and filled it out.

Then the owner comes out and tells me that the key to get to the HP tuners and EFI Live cabinet is not there and is with one of their guys that is traveling back from North Carolina and that he does not know when he will be back. Could be today, could be tomorrow.

He appologized and we will reschedule, I am totally bummed about it, especially since its a nice quiet day at work and getting the time away was no big deal.

So it was a waste of time this morning....

Thinking more about the coil covers though might need to do some work on those this weekend.
