Haha 88 you still haven't got your fan sorted out yet? Here is the guy you need for your AC. Just get the mounts from a 91+ and you are good to go. http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/89

Can you explain the difference between the auxillary fan compared to the AC fan and where they both sit at? Also why did the older 240s have AC fans, but the 88 didn't? Can I keep my auxiliary fan and still fit an AC fan? Also can I splice wiring into the auxilary fan to get power to the AC fan? Is there a kind online showing how to wire the AC fan on the 240?

I'm confused. The auxiliary fan is an electric fan placed in front of the radiator and condenser which comes on when the AC is running. Hence, I think the aux fan and AC fan are the same thing. It helps the AC cool when you are sitting at a red light by pushing air through the condenser. This also helps keep the engine temp down as the air also passes thru the radiator. Is this what you are asking about? I grabbed a fan off a JY car and wired it via relay, triggered by the AC compressor wire, so it runs whenever the compressor is engaged.

What I am referring to as an auxiliary fan is also known as the AC fan. Same thing. The PRV V6 240s ran an auxiliary fan. Some of the early 240s also had an auxiliary fan. Most 240s from 1975 through 1990 do not have an auxiliary fan. It wasn't until the 1991 240 with the new design AC system that Volvo installed the auxiliary fan on all 240s.

Did volvo 240 come with an AC fan that attached directly to the condensor not having to go through the radiator? I thought there was a AC fan on the 240 directly attached to the condensor?

No. They all mount to the core support. They only come on the models I mentioned. Your 88 did not come with an electric fan from the factory.

The cooling would be subpar if not directly against the condensor. Maybe I should go with aftermarket then and put in the front anterior to the condensor. Want to verify that there is no room putting an aftermarket fan behind the condensor in between the radiator and condensor.

No room.

No.

You will have to do a little magic.

Here and there to put it on an earlier car.

What kind of fan is that? Do you happen to know where I can get that one online? Do you know the depth of that fan? Thanks for the reply and the pics helped a lot

He's not posting a link to a fan for sale. He is suggesting you post a wanted ad for a fan and gave you a ready made way to do it.

So none of the mounting attaches to the condensor only core support? I had thought the 91 240 volvo fans was a direct fit without mods?

It is a direct fit, if you drill the required holes in the core support and latch support. Since your car is an earlier model, it will not have the holes in the core support punched for the hardware that attaches the fan brackets.

I also have one of the 91-93 240 AC fans with the brackets I will sell. It mounts to the core support and ends up about 1/2" away from the condenser.

You will also need to lop the front core support in half as shown in the picture, or run the 240 turbo style.

The turbo intercooled 240s came with an "intercooler" fan.

It was a e-fan mounted to the front of the a/c condensor.
