Question 1991 240 Remanned CarDone Power Steering Pump

Looking for new P/S pump for my 1991 240. yep the one with pump mounted reservoir/all in one P/S pump.
While an OEM Volvo pump would be best quality(if not NLA) I was wondering......
Anyone had success with a remanned CarDone P/S pump on a 91 240? Are there better remanned ones? Is there any company making them NEW?
If so, where?

That is a saginaw pump. They where used on Mopar products for years. You might check a dealership or maybe Year One.

The 91 is a Saginaw pump? thought that was the older 78-85 pump?

The later pump definitely isn't the same as the Saginaw unit. I can't comment as to the quality of the rebuild, but I have an A1 Cardone axle in my 850 and haven't had any issues with it.

well mine seems to be making an intermittant knocking sound & making the P/S belt work harder too. At 191,XXX miles too.

Guess I'll have to be the TB Guinea Pig, and try a remanned CarDone one.

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...146046-7854623

there are SEVERAL "seal kits" listed all less than $25 USFRN....
I'd try one of those FIRST (assuming that the drive shaft isn't
wobbling around like a dick in a shirt sleeve)...

I'm interested to see what you make of the rebuilt unit. I need a P/S pump (for a much older car though) and I've been looking with interest at rock autos prices, I don't usually trust parts that seem too cheap though.

I've heard a lot of bad things about Cardone reman parts and had a 240 that had a steering rack that was a total POS Cardone unit.

Why not just get one from a junker?

Changed mine out at 190K km and switched to a remote reservoir. ( an ebay used pump).
That failed in time, back to a used single piece original.

hey smokey,
the later pump you are looking for is a saginaw TC model, the early one with the metal resivor is a saginaw P series.

i would recomend pulling the flow valve and cleaning the screens in the pressure relife valve before replacing the pump.

i can get the maval rebuilt pumps for a good price if you need one.

just have to make sure the pressure relife valve is set to the same pressure and swap the flow valve to the volvo one.

all i did was select the right thread size from the list, something like 16mm IIRC

Which remanned would be better in your opinion Fidel? Maval or CarDone? And do either remanned ones come with a brand new reservoir instead of the old one?

Cardone shows one "nekked" and one with reservoir. but unsure if reservoir is a new or a used reservoir. I suspect it's a used one?

I may call dealership tomorrow & price a new P/S pump if it is not NLA. I'm figuring @200 bux for OEM one.

hokay....the CarQuest item (with reservoir) co$t$ me $80 USFRN (retail buk & a half) and is
listed as "PSC" on the TOP line of the description ( which I normally read as "Power
Steering CARDONE"- but the SECOND line lists it s "TIC Pumps" which is some larger
reman outfit....)

http://www.autopartsway.com/Part.cfm?W0133-1680286/MAV (lists a veritable SHlTLOAD
of *JEEPS* that the pump fits...hmmmmm).....MAVAL!.....

http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/sh...=0&modelYear=0

I'll wait while you see the price and then crap yer shorts.....

*if* it's on the website..it *should STILL be available*....I'd try a SEAL KIT for less than
$10 USFRN before I'd pay out THAT amount of DO$H!
