My 242 I bought back in 2008 and my first Volvo I bought. I paid only $350 for the car. The car was left with a half a tank of gas for five years. After switching fuel tanks and pumps and some basic maintenance it was my daily driver through high school.
My goal was to do a resteration project with my dad that has great talent with bodywork. When it came to building a motor my first thing I wanted was a turbo motor. I begain to wanting to do something different but still volvo. I decided to do a N/A build.
Been doing resarch of what redblock based motor I'm going to use. I thought of doing a junkyard 10.3:1 b23f but I wanted to build a motor to my liking instead of pulling one from the junkyard. I found out about volvo penta redblock with 86mm cranks and decent flowing heads. Looked on CL and found a AQ151C and paid $500 for the whole engine.
When building the motor I've decided to use b230ft pistions instead of aftermarket and the same for the rods. The b230ft pistons required some machining because of the longer stroke on the crank.
Here is the specs of the motor
B230f squirter block
86mm penta crank
13mm rods
First OS pistons
531 marine head
38/46 SS valves
AGAP camshaft
11:1 CR
I had RSI build a header and full 2.5in exhuast for me
Spent a lot of hours with my vavle cover and finished it off with VHT high temp rattle can
