Default Engine height?

I dont know where this should go so I will put it here.

Does anyone know how much a could shorten the height of a b230ft?
The project I have planed needs it to be down to about 26". thats about 1.5 - 2" shorter than it is now.

I was thinking about making a new oilpan but I dont know how far the oil pickup goes down. I hope to get about an inch there and another inch by a custom intake. anyone forsee any problems with this?

Easiest way would be to dry sump it. Oil would be stored in an external tank, so all you need is enough oil pan to cover the bottom and have drain hoses on. Only way I can think of to do it correctly

Damn, I was hoping it wasnt gonna come to that. It adds alot to the price of the build.

Have you ever seen a dry sump B230ft? Any idea of the cost? All I can think of is a spun alum. tank and an external oil pump but I have never built one before so I dont know.

Dry sump means more than just an external tank, you also need scavenge pump(s) to evacuate the sump.

Also, remember that in the 240 installation the bulk of the oil pan already hangs behind and below the crossmember and so is not contributing much to installed height. That means that in a 240 appication, going dry sump will not gain you much reduction. Or are you talking about another application...

Thanks guys.

Ya its not going in a 240. VolvoRsport and I are building the samething just on the opposite side of the world!

Volvorsport, I would love to get your bodywork but shipping something that size would be killer. Also, iim trying to keep a low profile of the car. I dont want the bonnet to look huge on top of the side panels. This is all about a year off anyways. I just found a good donor so tear down first then chassis, then running chassis then body. So its gonna be abit!

I haven't considered any oil drain issues but it might be easier to lose installed height by just slanting the motor over a little more than it already is...

Fix a electric motor to a PS pump, hydraulic pump from a truck, a danfoss oil burner pump (prbly not enough capacity), Think of everything with oil in it and a pump
I think a Power steering pump and a electric fan motot will be a good one.
I have also heard of some modern cars (younger than 1995 or so) have power steering pumps with electric motors attached to it. Some mazda's and other cars have them, but not sure..
