I have an 82 245 Wagon and though the radio works it doesn't work well. I can replace everything no problem but as far as I can tell the factory options for speakers sucks. It it just the two in the front doors and the two back by the back seats? Is this all I can fit in the car without a box in the back (not an option for me) Before I spend the money on a quality head unit I need to determine what possible speakers I could be running. If it's just those 3.5 inch speakers then sound will never be really high quality.

I ran 4" infinity's in my 87 244, and 6X9's in the back (which you dont have the option for) and atleast the fronts w/ a pioneer 4300 and it sounded great. Now, on the 740's you can't use rear shelf speakers, only door ones same as your 245 so heres what I did.
4 4" pioneer speakers (this is on a friends car) and a pioneer 2300 deck. Sounded much much much better. I would recommend pioneers or infinity's though I find them a bit harsh sounding. That would atleast be an improvement. Doug
