Default Straight to NPR?

Well, my obsession is accelerating at a rapid pace. After deciding that my recently acquired 242GT was too far gone to save (serious rear end repair at some time in the past, butt cheek on one side?, etc.) I will be picking up my new '82 GLT on saturday. I would like to take the car as far as it will go while keeping the K-jet for smog reasons. I desperately want to intercool the car so I can turn up the boost, but I am unsure if I should start with an OE intercooler or just forego that and do the NPR. I found a couple of factory intercoolers locally cheap, but there is an NPR on ebay right now....

Either way, I am going to have to figure out piping and mounting, so I guess my real question is are there any disadvantages to running an NPR on an otherwise stock car? I can't think of any, but I am still on the low end of a steep learning curve, so any input would help a lot.

This is the third 240 I have bought in the last 5 weeks...I'm in big trouble...

Hold out for 27 row NPR. That is the bigest one.

On a related subject, I am going to need to figure out piping as well. As I know my chances of finding an intercooled 240 in a yard are slim to none, can 740 piping be used? What, if any, modifications will be required? Should I just forego the stock stuff entirely and try to get some custom piping fabbed up?

On my car I used the 740 turbo-IC piping because I wanted to use the CBV from the 740. Then I got lucky and found an intercooled 240 at the JY and took the IC-TB piping from that. You could run the 740 piping here if you converted to a B230 intake manifold, but otherwise you'll have to do some fabricating.
