Well I finally went to the track(1/8th mile) and have some numbers to throw down. First some infomration:
1986 245+t @ 10psi MegaSquirt (no Spark, running 10* advance timing) Full tank of gas 3250lb car weight with me in it My R/T wasn't that great the whole day. First couple races were OK. But this was my first time ever to the track 1: R/T: .229 E.T.: 10.096 MPH: 70.842 2: R/T: .039 E.T.: 10.337 MPH: 69.483 3: R/T: .177 E.T.: 10.206 MPH: 70.989 4: R/T: -0.79 E.T.: 10.214 MPH: 70.037 And the last race was kinda special. I had raced by myself the first 4 runs and I raced with someone this time. It was a 94 Mercury Cougar with the ford 5.0, flowmaster 40-series exhaust, k&n intake, and 60mm throttle body w/ ported intake, car weight about 3800lbs w/ driver. He had been there racing and I saw him pulling up so I hopped back in my car and went up with him. Here are the results: ----- HIM | ME R/T: 0.029 | 0.396 *i just wasnt even paying attention* E.T.: 10.623 | 9.994 MPH: 64.467 | 71.356 So all in all a good day IMO. Broke into the 9's so that made me happy. I will go back again soon enough, and make alot more runs once my camaro is done and I can really screw around with the wagon. |

did you have traction issues? a 9.9 in the 1/8 converts to an 15.4 on the quarter mile.

those conversions are only useful in n/a cars... they're way off when you have to factor in turbo lag and the worlds worst 1st gear.. lol

haha, congrats on beating my n/a 240 (=cougar).
10.437@64.52 for me. Post your 60ft times, that's all that matters besides ET and MPH.

I have traction issues. It wasn't till I dropped my tire pressure and did a 7 sec burnout that I finally got some good times.
R/T ... .375 60' ... 2.183 1/8 ... 9.499 @ 72.94 1/4 ... 14.91 @ 90.70

No traction issues here... Really bad R/T's though.
I was running alot of tire pressure in the rear though (35lbs when I checked tire presssure cold). 60ft times are as follows(listed as I-1 on the ticket so I'm assuming thats 60ft): Race# (time): 1 (2.375) / 2 (2.442) / 3 (2.451) / 4 (2.388) / 5 (2.307) -- And on run 5 when I raced the cougar he had a 2.224 60ft. I had him passed before the 330. I'm learning, can't knock my first time out too hard BTW this was with an AW71 and ~2k rpm launches (foot on brake, foot eased into gas to get rev's up, foot way down on the gas to get turbo spooling while lights are going, foot off brake and gas pedal straight to glory |

andrew, reaction time has nothing to do with your et...it is only useful or important when you are physically racing another car.
more important would be working on your launches (aka 60' time)...less tire pressure would probably help here, as would raising launch rpm i'd imagine (tho i don't know how much higher you can go) they say that for every 1/10th you take off of the launch/60' time, you gain 2/10ths at the finish...so, if you got your 60' times to a repeatable 2.0-2.1 seconds, you'd be picking up at least .5 seconds in the 1/4!

I've heard and experienced about .15 for every .1 in the 60ft. I would think that auto would cut some better short times, strange. Glad you had fun and are happy!

Yeah I know R/T is it's own thing Billy, but in my book it just stinks and I want to get it better.
The car only seems to let me preload to 2k rpm, but that's alright. I'm not sure how far down I can get my 60fts... at least with this current setup. Like I said next time I go to the track I'll play around with some things and see what works best. I should hopefully in the future be doing some things to make more power! Thanks for the comments/advice everyone. |

What works for me is to not watch the tach but the boost gauge. I preload probably somewere around 8 psi because that keeps me from spinning my tires when I launch.

Yeah looks like I've got some work to do... All in good time.
I don't want to beat on the car too much until I get my other car running, then it's on like donkey kong! |
