Default Saturday At Mike's

Rob was in a horrible accident in which he got a Honda wheel stuck on his foot. Then he proceeded to walk around with it as if it were a shoe. Then a short time later he was bored of the wheel- shoe, because it is not a spinner.

Gutted my engine bay of the cracked & leaking radiator, and the battery & battery tray to clear room for test fitting the psic.

Not bad, but cutting required. Ultimately, it was decided that too much chassis integrity would be sacrificed to fit the intercooler. Stay tuned for the next installment (actual installation) of a truck intercooler in my car.

Moving on to the next project, battery relocation.

Bracket fabrication.

Meanwhile, The Mike kept himself busy on an auxiliary engine support bracket project.

Oooh, glowing.

Mustn't touch.

Finally, I got the shot I wanted after many blurred, overexposed attempts.

Test fit the semi-polished t-belt cover on THE engine.

Nice pics. Makes me regret not picking up that polished cover someone had way back. I hope yours is clear coated

Expose during full wattage welding, then make adjustments accordingly.

and nice timing cover. You spray that with some kinda chrome?

Hahaha. Indeed, you nailed that one on the head. I saw that, and then I saw Isaac under his car topless while welding.... Both of these are bad juju, and are strictly forbidden in most shops. The latter of course is forbidden for more obvious reasons than burning your nipples till they glow...

Meh, welding without skin covering isnt THAT bad on the scale of shop no-no's, welding burns kinda tickle, plus you get a nice tan...The bench grinder + gloves is pretty much the all too commen #1 DONT.

ive heard the bench grinding thing and i know its a rule in almost any shop, but personally i just like having my hands covered...

i guess it becomes more of an issue if its something you do day in and day out rather then once a week or less.

anyways, good progress mike, waiting to see what you do IC wise. on an unrelated note, how loud did pulling all that sound deadening make your car? i pulled all the padding from the passengers side, and got about half of the tar paper off and right now it has that door slightly cracked noise going on, yours about the same?

I think if you reinforce the outside & box the inside of the frame when installing the PS you should be fine.

That the final location of the battery? FYI it's a PITA to get it installed there. Errrr it was for me.

I (sometimes)wear heavy leather welding gloves when grinding.
I have seen several people get their fingers mangled by grinders and wire wheels, but never a glove. That does not mean it won't happen, and I agree that some equipment can hurt you if it snags clothing. But I will wear my welding gloves when grinding large items.
Also, heat is a natural byproduct of grinding, and even if you keep cooling the metal (which I do), it an get too warm to hold safely.

Oh, and most pony-ass grinders can barely eat a glove, let alone an arm. The one in the picture is good for a finger or two, max.

My new IC arrived today. Wow, another big box....hope it's powerstroke big...

The battery box has the flat bar running over the top to hold it down. Two pieces of flat bar with a bolt welded to the end of each was welded on either side of the battery box to act as the hold down. The box & battery will slide out the side for removal. I haven't run the cable yet.

But did you notice that Isaac is flipping you the bird while welding topless under a car? +1000000 points for style.

FWIW, I think it's a sparkler. Still a cool shot, tho.

Notice the drill bit added to the foreground for adding a sense of depth? Flawless composition.
But I still like a blown out(overexposed) welding pic.

B23 and ~'80+ B21 covers are one piece plastic. The one piece part was obvious, and not an indicator of material.
