850, there is a 94' (i think) turbo at the local yards with 136k for 150 or so $ , and the engine hasn't been molested like all the cars at pnp's are
thanks kenny
Edit: hmm i always that b230s were heavier than the 5cyls

FWIW I can't imagine the weight varying much (maybe 25lb tops?) between different chassis seeing as the basic engine is the same and they pretty much all had AC and PS etc....

And yeah there certainly isn't any weight to be saved via 5cyl whiteblock. I think maybe the extra cylinder is what does it (ie if you had a 2.3l S40 engine you'd have a better comparison).
IE:
B30 has a cast iron head so the comparison isn't quite the same, but if you consider that a B6304f is 45lb lighter including the fact that it's a twin cam, the whiteblocks do start to look better, but comparing the 5cyl to the 4cyl ends up a bit misleading. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Right, and that's why an all-aluminum 3.0L, 6 cylinder whiteblock with 24 valves and 2 cams is still 45lb lighter that an all-iron 3.0L 6 cylinder redblock with only 12 valves and 1 cam.

That is an apples-to-apples comparison imo, in that the number of cylinders is the same.

As soon as you add a cylinder, you add an extra piston and rod, crank journal, valvetrain, etc., so you lose some of what you've gained from the aluminum block (which I wouldn't say is all that much to begin with as the block itself is a more elaborate casting.)

It's a shame the S40 motor weight isn't there as I think it'd be a better comparison.

Dunno if that makes sense....

Ya it's weird, I am and then I'm not, on one hand they are so high tech and the aluminum helps but on the other hand they are such beasts.

I have probably had that behemoth in and out of the wagon about 20 frickin' times adjusting this and that and fabricating the mounts.. ..and when it's up in the air you can tell just by how the hoist is that it's got some serious mass to it. hee hee hee.

I can't imagine what it'll be like w/ turbo and manifold... I don't think I'd try to put the motor in with that stuff attached... but I digress. Sorry for the OT.

absolutely. When I had mine up on the hoist it made the same groans it did with a b23ft on it lol
