Default Vol240vo-- '78 242 "Bye Bye Banana!

I lost my old project thread in the big TB crash... It took about 3 hours to do, so this time I'll just let the pictures tell the story!

The day I bought it for $500 in January of 2005:

First thing I wanted to tackle was the body, it needed rescuing! Unfortunately I lost my camera during body work and the prepping for paint.

Then I gave the interior a little attention:

After the 242 was starting to look like a halfway decent car, I knew I wanted wheels. So I rebuilt the front and rear calipers and painted them.

I spent a few months searching for different wheel options, I knew I wanted a direct bolt on without having to use spacers/adapter. I ordered an iPd catalog and saw they carried Voxx MG Wheels that were a direct bolt on, the only downfall was they were only offered in 16x7s. I called my local wheel shop and they had the Voxx MGs in 17x8s for less $$$.

Nice pictures, I didn't realize you started out with such a rough shell. Can't wait till you find new wheels

After driving around for a month or 2, I bought some iPd lowering springs, 25/25 sway bars, and Bilstein TC Shocks and Struts.

Found an R-Sport Steering Wheel on eBay for $90, the seller had no idea what it was actually worth...Just about MINT condition too!

DynoMax Exhaust installed:

Started getting sick and tired of a 28 year old radio, threw in a quick iPod system nothing special...

I hated the feeling of the outside and interior of the 242 looking good but if you popped the hood this is what you saw:

A few days of work changed that:

Finally swapped the old style windshield with the '91-93 slim style. Also found some skinny bumpers and an airdam!

The newer style wind sheild definetly looks cleaner. Thats the next exterior mod I will be doing to my car.

Thanks, I sold this 242 about 6 months ago. The engine components I got from Motion auto supply, wheels from discount tire, bumpers and airdam local JY, Rsport steering wheel and hub (about 100 bux on eBay), TME springs from iPd, upper braces here on TBs, Bilsteins from eshocks.com, the rest were parts I already had from past Volvos. Thanks for the resurrection btw!

This is my new 242:

So I finally joined TurboBricks, thanks for telling me about it! This must be your old 242 you were talking about...looks nice. I'll have to check out your Beige one.

Hey Travis, nice to see that you set up an account! Endless amounts of info, when you get a chance you should post a thread with pictures of your 244, I'm sure most will love it! You going to the next Auto X at Deer Park Airport?
