I've got a similar setup for my 84 245, foam...

I've got a similar setup for my 84 245, foam mattress cut to the right shape (and folds up) plus bubble wrap insulating sheets covered in black cloth for the windows.

Couldn't you still check for ground engine off/on at W to see if it's for a warning light or ground input?

Although I wouldn't think a floating ground sending unit would be able to peg the gauge...
