The springs are the same, but the upper spring cups are different and so slightly raises the driver's side to compensate for extra weight(driver and batt) on the driver's side.

Correct, it's not possible to "mix up" the spacers if they were welded at the factory. ABS brakes started in 1989, from what I understand ABS strut tubes have the factory welded spacer.

The blue/yellow wire completes the ignition circuit. Like apachef said you can apply 12v to tab #1(or #2) and that should engage the starter providing the starter and solenoid work.
