1989 240 Turbo "Mako"

Updates

Scrapped the oil coolers (**** 1/2 bsp threads) It would cost a large sum to get custom lines made for nothing, which is the reason why no one ever does it.

I mounted them back in the stock location. Since I have the lines, I'll just do a stock oil cooler setup in my bay.

I decided the best investment is to replace my dying AW70 with a good AW71. Instead of buying suspension parts (which are also worn out) Today I ordered a seal and gasket kit, pan gasket and filter, kickdown cable and mount.

I also ordered an oil pressure switch in 1/8 NPT, 2 Speed fan switch for my radiator, exhaust gasket set for when I get my manifold patched and ported and of course a nice catch can.

Sadly, no suspension stuff came up and I really want to get some stuff done before I run out of time, but I am looking for a set of 25/25 sways or larger.

I have all my oil cooler stuff still so that will be installed. Kevbot960 is right now working on my 15g so I am waiting to see where that will go.

Another sidenote, did some work to my engine bay cleaning it up and mounting stuff, I'll get a pic up tomorrow.

Ill be doing a 15g and oil cooler install this weekend.

Finished up installing TALO chips after getting my chippable ezk today.

Forgot to mention that my fart can is now a flat black instead of a red.

Also those pics.

Updates, trying to figure out my slightly rough idle and slgiht miss.

I checked all the ignition components and they are up to spec. I am going to try the fuel system next, which it has an old fuel filter and two old stock pumps, an ancinet fpr and JY injectors. It needs some work but so far it is alright and it runs well.

I think it may be a very small leak at the intake manifold gasket, that is possible too but i'll check that in the future.

Otherwise the car looks the same, replaced the passenger rear caliper and put in EBC Redstuff brake pads all the way around, 2 Speed E fan switch in the rad, changed out the brake fluid, changed out the PS fluid, added the snowflake switch for the AC.

Oil change is coming up in the next 200 miles, hopefully switching out for a Walbro 255 in tank and all that good stuff, bought a brand new VDO oil gauge for half the price that is sitting here, got my new fuel filter and fuel sock waiting to go in, installing a transmission cooler and trying to arrange a transmission swap to an AW71 that is sitting in my garage, got the gaskets, filter, mount and kickdown cable to go with it too. Of course, the Accumulator mod is a must

Also most likely getting my hands on a set of Milgia's with tires :-D

Maybe cut springs in the front?

Trying to figure out my hesitation, small missfire and why the car shakes badly at anything over 65.

I do have a bad transmission mount, I am not sure about the driveshaft causing a problem.

I think my air mass meter or the wiring job I did is bad and I need to replace the amm and redo the wiring.

I am getting the dreaded 1400 rpm idle at N and P so I think that's either a bad TPS or IAC or a Dirty throttlebody.

I plan on doing the same blacked-out grill and trim as yours. Looks great.

When is it getting lower? Looks like 4x4 status right now.

The wheels do help the look a lot, well I am going to do it the right way. Lowering springs, HD's and Sways.

I first need to get my trans and vibrations sorted out, along with fixing my engine miss.

So far so good, replaced a bunch of engine stuff, turns out so far that the way I rewired my AMM to work on the other side of the bay was subpar, the wire thickness and age were all different, probably what caused my CEL and miss at idle. I hope that was it because I don't know what else would cause a 121. I did replace the AMM with a clean working one along with a clean and working IAC with new piping. Got a new turbo intake hose installed too.

Engine has smoothed out quite a bit at idle, along with my RPM's not acting up and the engine being quieter.

I got the car inspected as well, turns out my bad tailshaft in the AW70 caused a leak which I knew about, turns out that leak destroyed my driveshaft support and my transmission mount. Probably going to replace those when I drop in another transmission, otherwise it would just be a waste of time and money right now.

Well, was at the Orlando GTG

Thanks for the pic ralph

Anyways I sadly can't swap in the transmission I want to because of my family and lack of money, so I will have to live with an aw71 until I can afford a T5 swap. Hoping to get the Aw71 done within a month or two.

Trying to maybe plan out a better engine to put in there 1-2 years down the road, more or less a built one that does't slap.

I'll see, but for now putting in the Aw is on the list with lowering it.

Plan is to get used IPD sways, IPD springs new, Bilstein HD used, Used adjustable torque rods and panhard rod. Longer studs in the rear with spacers.

All salty

Anyway my driveshaft support took a **** after today so I got to make a decision soon on a transmission swap.

Now I have to wash off all the salt and sand.

So i've made my decision.

AW71 now, T5 later.

Sad to say but I do have all the parts to swap in and reseal the AW71 without having to spend any more money. I am having to save up to go to Germany anyways in July so my funds are going to be tight.

Anyways my plans are...

Transmission / Trans Cooler
Driveshaft Mount
Install Oil Cooler
Rear Fenders rolled
Spacers on the rear
Adjustable Panhard
Install Walbro 255
Lowering springs / Cut springs
Sways
Shocks and Struts

THEN T5

Well screw doing anything in order.

Got these to install and probably going to cut the front and rear springs for now. They are worn out anyway, what do I have to lose?

At least I have the transmission cooler installed, but I think I installed it backwards so it goes through the radiator after being externally cooled, not sure.

Updates...

Planning on getting the driveshaft mount done along with the trans mount either mon or tues.

Getting the fenders rolled hopefully tues.

Getting a detail done this weekend but that is up in the air.

Today I got in my IPD sway bar bushings.

Put in the rear shocks and rear sway, front sway goes in either tomorrow or Tuesday.

Ok, updates...

Keeping the aw70 for awhile, the only problem with it is the tailshaft bushing and seal is really bad. Ordered a kit and the total price to get it fixed is 155. It is 450 to do a full aw71 swap but I'd rather put that 450 towards a T5

Driveshaft CSB and Trans mount are done, really happy about that.

Rear fenders are getting rolled Monday

Ordered a set of 5mm spacers so when I get the fenders rolled, I won't be rubbing the inside either anymore.

Getting a full Exterior detail on Saturday to help preserve the paint.
