Making my 245 QUIETER! UPDATE!!!#1
Ok, made a thread a while back about sound deadning my 245, well this weekend the poi came over and we tore it up. I love my 245 cause the dash comes out on 15 minutes with a socket for the steering wheel and a philips screwdriver! 1 1/4 hours to tear the interior out and we have this (after a vacuum and wipedown)
So I opted for B-quiet. Dont ask why, whats done is done and thats that. The entire floor and soon to be doors are covered in b-quiet extreme. The entire job takes about 2 rolls at 50sq. ft. each roll. Over the tunnel is the factory sound insulation as around the shifter with a second layer of B-quiet V-comp, a similar type of insulation with a rubber side and foam on the other. Im gonna put the car back together and we will see how it is. I may order more V-comp if its not what i expect. As for the doors, im gonna layer the inside of the door (inside of the outer sheetmetal) with the extreme and also try to cover all the access holes just behind the door panel.
The stuff covers nicely and is easy to install. Not to hard to cut.
My sound level meter has 2 weighting options A@30Hz-10kHz, and C@500Hz-10kHz. At the A setting, the drone and chassis noise from having poly bushings is well over 100db, cruise and normal driving from 80-92db. (thats pretty dam loud!)
With the C setting cruise was around 75db-82ish db. So you can see there is a ton of reverberation with the large sound waves at the lower frequiencies. These freqs are your brain ratteling droning lows, and all the muddy sound that makes it hard to have a quiet conversation. As soon as the car is back on the road, ill make another post with the comparisons, and hopefully get this thrown into the archive.
