Default What clutch for 250ish hp?

I turned the boost up on my 1979 242 the other day and man is it fun...until the clutch slips. It slips really bad so I need something stronger than the stock 8.5 inch non turbo clutch. I have a B21F with a 13c, LH2.2, B cam and mild porting. I want to keep the stock flat flywheel because I dont want a 33 lb flywheel in my car. Do you think a Spec stage 2 clutch would hold up to 250hp or maybe a little more? I dont plan on making more than that until I put a stronger driveline in it. Only future mods until then would be a 14t that i got for free and a set of orange tops out of a FWD turbo.

I've heard of bad things about clutchnet, that's why I wanted to go with spec clutches instead. Anybody else have some insight?

I've never had bad luck with clutchnet. They're worth a shot. I looked into the spec stage2+ , I just wanted the disc because I like my current pressure plate. Spec told me that They couldn't sell me just the disc, so I went elsewhere.

Shoot Towery a PM....I believe he has run a "red" CN setup with upper 200's for some years now without issues. Search for the users, and talk to them directly on their experiences.

You really think they would still be in business, lasting through this battered economy, if they sold painted stock parts?

I know my stock clutch couldn't hold 200hp but their "painted stock parts" have been able to hold 400hp without slipping, must be magic paint.

Haha that's awesome, my dad works at whole foods and he's been driving it because his Subaru needs a radiator. And you're right 500dollar, I'll try the 6 puck with the red plate and see how it holds, should be enough to break my stock tranny haha

You don't need a red plate really, I have a green plate with a 4-puck sprung clutch and it holds fine. A red plate is fine but it'll break clutch cables if that's what you are using.

i trust you have reference, but my brothers GT is running a red PP and 6puck with cable, and no signs of issues. been in there a while on a lightened flywheel.

Won't happen to everyone. There's been people on the board using a stage 3 whatever pressure plate that have actually ripped the studs out of the fire wall for the clutch pedal.

Did he actually measure the thickness of the diaphragm?

There a reason the captive nuts and things haven't ripped out...PP ain't any more than stock..

What disc?

and again have YOU measured the diaphragm thickness.
Talked to Volvo vendor in VA about what Spec said they do?

Numbers don't lie.

So john, what would you recommend for an 8.5 inch clutch that will hold 250+ hp?
