1993 Volvo 940T auto trans flush

I’m planning on performing an ATF flush for the 940 before a camping trip this weekend. I’m a little confused by all the different fluid types, anyone have a recommendation for fluid type? The car shifts a little rough at the moment and has 185k on it. Not sure when the fluid was changed last, just got the car a few months ago off CL.

To get it clean just get 3 gallon jugs of house brand at Wal Mart (IIRC Conoco makes their ATF) - if you can procure the ipd kit, go that route....or make your own (no idea what the thread is for the cooling lines at the radiator are). If its really dirty, maybe drop the pan and clean the filter too.

I get an old milk or water jug and measure an exact quart of water....add it and draw a line with a permanent marker. Add another quart and draw a line at 2 quarts. Then drain your old into that.....stop at 2 qts, then add 2 qts of new. That way you never lose track of whats out or back in.

NOTE:
The engine should be idling when checking transmission fluid level.

Honda is the only one I can think of at the moment where you DO check it with the engine off.
 
I'd drop the pan, leaving the dipstick tube on, change the filter, gasket and maybe swap the kickdown cable too. Then do a flush at the radiator fitting using a hose into a bucket. Yes, like your link says.
 
I ended up doing the flush from the top radiator lead, just using the 3/8" tubing into a gallon container worked great. Ended up using 3 gallons of the Valvoline max life ATF and did a final check of the levels after driving the car around a bit and the fluid was warm.

It still does shift a little rough, I was thinking about adjusting the kick down cable to see if that will help. Any advice on how to go about that?

Thanks for the reply Masterblaster. I adjusted the kick down cable a bit but I think I got it wrong, still working on it. When I press on the gas up a hill it will stumble a bit, would this be from not adjusting properly for the harder twist?
 
I did not know that you were supposed to measure the ferrule's distance starting from the threaded portion of the sleeve. I used the end of the orange stopper as a reference. No wonder I haven't been able to get my shifts exactly right.
