Default Gear box quest

I have ate home 2 gear box´s for the 700 series for my van(745TIC)

one says L TYPE and other says J TYPE and they seem almost alike,, do you now the diference between Them?

I'm not the gear box guy overhere, but they look the same?

no other numers on it anywhere

http://people.physics.anu.edu.au/~am..._volvo_240.htm contains a lot of information about M46 gearboxes and overdrives, but no info on the L-type overdrive. Couldn't find any info anywhere else.

Only L-type gearboxes I know of are the automatic transmissions AW70L/AW71L/AW72L.

are you sure its an L or is it a D there are d j and p type od units on manual trans. D type is on m41 and J and P type were used on m46 boxes.

Maybe its a rare L-type m46

See i´f i can take a pic of bouth of them, they look almost the same 4+OV bouth, i can get a 5gear box also, but it´s smoler them the others and it doesn´t have the rev con cut on the top!!....

you will find that the 5 spd box is probaly be alloy seires 1or2, they are lighter and as strong, you can drill a hole for the counter. waiting for pics.

and about the gear relacion of them all? it´s the same?

the 5speed gearbox is from a 740 gle 2.0 NA i think it´s smoler than the others , need to change the (axel?) to.

must get the usb cab to trans the pics to the pc , look for it at home, and take the pics of them.

ratios are all simerler altho ime not sure about 2ltr 5spd . would like to see pics of L type od.
