Default 1988 volvo 240 keeps making popping noise

i have a 240 that keeps making a popping noise when i turn the steering wheel, so far i change the ball joints because I thought that was the problem seeing how old they were. after putting new ball joints the car still makes the same noise and I don't know where else to check now.

Did you check the U joints on the steering shaft?

Could also be strut mounts. If the bearing gets sticky it will twist the spring a bit before it starts turning, causing it to noisily snap to the new position.
