Odd issue with service light keeps getting triggered, rough cold start
Should read service light keeps getting triggered.
Got this odd issue that I am trying to figure out, maybe somebody has a few other ideas or similar experience. Turbo conversion with a 94 B230FT.
The issue(s)
So my service light keeps getting triggered even after reset. Sometimes the light comes on and stays on the usual amount, sometimes goes off right away, sometimes doesn?t come on at all but the switch has been triggered. I figure it must be an electrical issue somewhere but having trouble figuring out where, it doesn?t get worse with rain.
I have also had a starting issue sort of happening at the same time, over cranking by about 3-4 cranks and then sort of a sputtering start. Once the car is good and warm it doesn?t really overcrank but the catch is still a little weak.
Car runs just fine *but* it has a little less pick up, uses a little more gas, and the car seems a little more shaky at idle or sitting a light - being picky here but I can notice a little less zoomityzoom according to my pants dyno
No codes thrown and idle speed good
What I have done so far and the issues still continue
- Cleaned grounds for the charging, ignition system, and fuel system incl batt negative cable and connection.
- Battery good
- Check fuel pump, pump is working, pressure good
- New spark plugs just because, old plugs look ok
- Cables and ignition coil are 1yr old and test fine
- O2 sensor 1yr old, AFR?s haven?t changed at all
- AMM tests ok, tried out another known working one as well
- New crank position sensor - I had meaning to put a new one in that I had - admittedly I threw this part on after throwing my hands up.
- New ground strap on the alternator as it had deteriorated
- Changed the regulator on the alternator as the brushes had worn down, it is a Bosch. * I couldn?t find a Bosch regulator local so I used a KAE - it caused all my lights to rapidly flicker, so changed that to another one recommended by a local mechanic. Dash lights very lightly flicker in sequence with turn signal but not at other times that I can tell - hard to see unless in the dark or wearing polarized sunglasses. ? The issues happened prior to this regulator going in. After chatting with this local Mechanic he doesn?t think the regulator is my issue.
At this point I am thinking
* injectors were cleaned etc years ago but maybe one is leaking leading to the hard start, I can hear them clicking on the diagnostic mode.
* check valve could be leaking a little but I don?t really smell gas
* that damn non Bosch regulator is screwing with things even though the charging test ok, I have one on order
* there is break in a cable somewhere or a volt hopping - the ground in the tailgate hinge is broken but been like that for years but maybe all of a sudden...
Any thoughts appreciated, thxs
