Laying awake with minor insomnia I grabbed my phone to surf OfferUp. The first car I saw was a 72 142E listed for cheaper than it should have been. I messaged the seller that happened to be up late too and set up a time to see the car in the afternoon. When my Dad and I showed up we learned the seller had received 48 messages about the car, but I was the first to respond about 2 minutes after the ad posted. The seller is a stand up guy that didn't raise the price after he got so many messages, didn't try to start a bidding war, and agreed to hold it 24 hours while we set up a tow. Truly a dying breed when dealing with OfferUp/CL/marketplace.

The seller's 93 year old Dad was the owner of the car. He had owned it since 1986, parked it about 3 years ago, and now the son is handling the living estate. After it got a tow notice the son decided it had to go. The son drove it across town to get it to his house 3 months ago, but said it ran rough. We threw in a battery and what little gas the seller had in a can and gave her a go. The engine caught, but didn't want to run. It has typical grime and mold from sitting, surface rust on paint scratches throughout the car, and some small soft spots on the floors right by the doors.

Right now it's tucked in with Dad's '69 144S waiting for us to dig in on Monday. Step one is getting it running, then we'll deep clean, then a stage 0. After that we have to decided if it bumps one of our cars to the chopping block or goes up for sale.

Nice!
I'll have some decent front / rear seat covers in that same color. From the 73 that I'm (slowly) working on. There are couple of rips, but not too bad.
I could let them go cheap plus the shipping, if you are interested. I haven't removed them yet but could, so let me know and I can send you some pics.

Thanks! I'll check in once we get to making improvements on the car.

We confirmed we have a fuel issue. Cycling the key to accessory a few times showed that only two injectors are firing. I have an old set of b30 injectors I got from the jy years ago, so we might try that.

Since we hit the dead end there We took the rear springs out. I had spotted some odd (and broken) rubber spacers added to the springs.

Looks good.

There should be a manual transmission swap in your future.
It will completely change the character of the car for the better.

“ I had spotted some odd (and broken) rubber spacers added to the springs.”

Sometimes used back in the day to level out a car prior to wheel alignment. Or just old sagging springs getting a boost.

It definitely deserves an m41. We've moved from 60% sure we will sell it to about 90% we will sell it, so a tranny swap will fall on the shoulders of the next owner.

She runs! Dropped in a set of spare injectors and fiddled with wires a bit to confirm tightness and she fired right up. Right now it idles high and has no brakes, so those are the next two things to tackle. We were able to give it a decent wash for a later detailing. As soon as we get a nice warm day for it to sit in the sun we want to steam clean the interior.

When we decided we weren't keeping the car we told ourselves to do just enough to get the car on the road, not go down the rabbit hole of repairs. Then the passenger window wouldn't roll up. So Dad peaked in the rabbit hole and tore the door apart, removed the window frame, glued some parts, and lubed everything up. Now it runs buttery smooth.

The idle is still high, so we need to look into that. The brakes seems to seize up too, so I removed all the calipers to clean them and need to tackle that this week.

We're "done" with the car, so now it's up for sale. We hate to see it go, but we can't keep them all.
