Default 85 V6 auto to manual conversion

Hi Guys, I am looking at info on changing my 85 GLE from the BW35 to a 5 (or 6) speed manual gearbox - and wondering if there is a Volvo solution to this problem (M47?) or if I need to go aftermarket - has anyone done this????

That is indeed good news Redwood Chair,

Unfortunately it seems we did not get any in Australia -
I assume the gearbox and all of the manual gear will change out of a 4cyl car -
but does anyone have info on the whereabouts of a bellhousing and flywheel?
Is there anything else I will need to source from a 6cyl car that I can not get from a 4cyl?
Many thanks again

6cyl might have hydraulic, whereas 4cyl might have cable clutch.

4 and 6 bellhousings do not fit each other.

Just get a Getrag.

You are in Oz? RHD?

Hydraulic clutch is rare. Hard line will be different from LHD. It can be made easily enough.

I have bell housings for M-46. Best to use it as a starting point and fit a T-5 if you are a savage as the M-46 is easily broken. I also have flywheels, clutches ect. None of which is free and $hipping will $ting more today then three months ago.

If fitting an M-46 the shifter 'cage' is longer for V-6 then for a four cylinder. I may have that stuff.

A million thanks guys,
This is my first Volvo so really testing the waters here................
So from what has been said above

Yes we have Hydraulic clutches on just about everything over here
The T-5 is a much stronger box (and no crappy electric overdrive)

To do the T-5 swap. I will need:
Donor pedal assembly
Clutch master and line
V-6 Bellhousing and flywheel
Spigot Bearing??
Custom driveshaft

I assume there are threads with info on which T-5 to use as there are a million different versions
Speedo Drive??

Johnlane, I will message you regarding the stuff I need to buy and ship. Many thanks

a million thanks to all for the info!

T-5 with the 2.95 first ratio works well. Enough overdrive in top to quiet things down on the freeway.

The V-6 can be made to be more amusing.
