^Different cruise setup... You need the setup from a 1986-89 car, which I think 2manyturbos Roy has available. The good news is that the pre-1990 cruise setups do use the same stalk, so you guys can trade stalks if you want.

Bummer. Thanks for the info.

ADM if you want my stalk let me know. I wouldn't mind trading that just to have it. Maybe just to control a rostra unit.

No idea if it's working, I'll probably refit it down the line once I can eliminate it as part of the vacuum leaks. There's a whole mess of wiring with it but the actual ecu for it is missing too!

I did test the injectors yesterday, they're making a whining sound and they only spray when I've got the pumps jumped on the fuse box.

I ordered a new set of injectors.

On the advice of a more learned member in terms of these cars I removed and cleaned the idle air control valve too and it was stuck.

Meanwhile I had removed the battery from my Benz to jump the Volvo a bit better (more cranking amps) and got distracted by the state of the battery tray.

Went back to volvo later and decided it was a good time to do a coolant flush.

All new hoses and thermostat going in soon.

Nice progress! Check the wiring diagram, but some (or maybe all) years of K-Jet have a wire from the coil "-" tab to the fuel pump relay (and to tach, if any). The fuel pump relay only turns on once cranking, and spark, is detected. It's a safety thing - don't pump fuel when the engine isn't running.

Will do man, I did change the coil so may have put something where it didn't belong! Thanks!

Time to wash out the cooling system. Nothing terrible, all clear water and a little sediment, no rust !

More than a bit of a process.

I have all new hoses and I'm cleaning up the t junctions.

Tested out the new thermostat

My overflow tank has a good bit of pitting on one side, may need to replace it?

Looks like someone used sealant where it meets the bracket too.

There was no thermostat in it !

Threw the cleaned up idle air control valve back in, fiddly thing to get the bolts in!

The front splitter clip had disintegrated see o quick but if cable tie action !

More on the rebuild of the coolant system later, all the hoses red rotten! Hope my heater core is okay !

Boring stuff here for the most part, had to improvise some brazing with the solder I had on hand for one of the pipe t's. Used a bit too much sealant but got some pretty even squeeze out ;)

Little jobs tonight so they'll be all cured for tomorrow!

I had to just purchase new tees. Mine were rotted through. Nice work!

Yeah, I might be buying new ones too - that or pipes that are a bit smaller. Did a water test and it took a leak immediately!

I have new Volvo water Tees if you are interested.

I may also have a spare fuel injector line or two.

Thanks, man - I just ordered them on VP parts yesterday! the injector line survived but i'll keep you in mind next time !

So she'll run if I manually actuate the kjet fuel distributor, the engine runs and that's good enough for now, I've to work my way through the troubleshooting guides and see why she needs so much help!

I'm waiting on one of the connector pipes for the cooling system - though I got away with the repair on mine but it's leaking from the seam and a few more pinholes!

To avoid getting static in terms of progress I decided to get the cross threaded wheel stud out of the way! $16 sae set from harbor freight and a bit of luck and got the threads cleaned up.

It's right under the intake manifold, towards the rear of it, undo the two pipes going into the throttle body and undo two ten bolts I think they were, it will also have an electrical connector to remove on it.

Hmmm interesting. Not sure my car has one. Its a 1982 Kjet turbo car. I don't remember seeing that and i have had the intake manifold off.

Every US market Volvo got electronic idle speed control starting in 1981 so your car should have it. No guarantee that someone hasn’t played Volvo lego in the intervening 40 years though.

made sure to use the right coolant :D

Confirmed it was the right color when it came pissing out the back of the head somewhere.

This car really doesn't want to be on the road!

Time for new battery cables, slow starter and serious heating up !

These are the sizes in first pic if you ever go near an old 240.

Got distracted by a pretty heavy oil leak in the truck! Thankfully sorted quite quickly, I love my Toyotas ;)

Tried to check the timing, can't see any of the flywheel marks, have the belts on order so I can reach when I take off the timing belt cover to check.

No power at the #30 pin of the fuel pump relay with key off so have to chase that.

No bounce in the tach so I've ordered the pickup/ hall sensor, I have a spare distributor here with a new sensor/ pickup lead but I can't get the current distributor out!

Hopefully I can put this new sensor in with distributor in place?

Quick vid of her turning over now, much better than it was, after the cables and cleaning up grounds

Scored this sweet tool tray, bluepoint job and it's cleaning up very nicely. I don't know what they cost new but I'd expect it was multiples of the $100 bucks I gave for it.

So the hall sensor, I don't have a needle nose circlip thingy and I can't get the pickup wiring screw to turn at all in the car...

Thought I'd remove the distributor and do it on the bench.

That thing won't move for love nor money, have had it soaking a week in oil/ penetrating stuff and it won't budge.

Think I'll need a sky hook ;)

Project pain in the hole continues...
