Default Dust Cover for Carrier Bearing Broken

Hey everyone do you know if i can run a driveshaft w/o this dust cover thats suppose to sit over the bearing this dust cover came out of my 90 740 (w/50mm diameter), but today some guy gave me his driveshaft out of an 87?(same 50mm diameter) and it didn't have a dust cover on it.
