I've only been in one car smackup in my life, and it 'twas on a logging road.
Trees are so much more solid than you might think.

John, if you need to build up a small army of spanner monkeys to help unwad your junk between stages (or work on getting it there in the first place) I doubt you would have a hard time recruiting from us younguns.

I can't explain it. I have the grip for sure, but my brakes are still sub par. Maybe the bumps & ruts have something to do with it? Early arms are weaker?

We smacked the tree with the front right wheel with enough force to moosh the entire front quarter up into the engine, with enough force left over to crack the head away from the block and spray oil and coolant everywhere.
Top of second. No way am I going out again without a cage.

The tree lost some bark.

John when you do the header, what do you want for you snazzy thing that bolts to the stock exhausts?

Renny after the repair done several years ago it is not worth the effort. It has grown several cracks and needs a major rethink. That and the exhaust manifolds really ARE sooooo crummy that it should never have made the power it did.

1000 horses? No. over 500 horses that are really usable? This will happen.

I hit my first tree at age 12. I was a passenger when we hit the second tree (a wee feller), this year with Steve driving. The only other round object I ever hit was a power line pole, and that was no comparison. Still folded the car up, but that was a much higher speed crash.

Ok well so much for the simple manifold idea. Can't wait to see what replaces these. I am curious at how it made the power that it did when it shouldn't have. What did you change to make up for the crappy manifold?

Thanks
Renny

Renny a LOT of energy was wasted in the exhaust to make the power it did.

The upgrades will do wonders for BSFC.

So John,
are you implying that the V6 is getting proper headers and turbo collector?

Five years later..... Ahhh how time flies.

2008 saw the Fire Breathing Monster earn a championship here in the Pacific NorthWest....

Sellholm's package of Suspension served well. Coil-overs with solid bushings everywhere.... Fancy calipers with big rotors on hats....

The turbo got rearranged... Turned 180 degrees so the air filter didn't hang out the hood anymore.

She served well.... I wadded her up in 2009.... Then life got in the way....

The coachwork got mostly finished but I damaged the turbo when the compressor housing was off.... rev it up and that piece of heat insulating material on the firewall decided that it wanted to get into the Cuisinart with only too predictable results. ugh. Well I'd been looking for an excuse to upgrade the T-4 right? She sat parked on the battery tender since.... Always started up when asked.

A while back I purchased a Holset for her.... Sure.... T-4 pattern! Should be a piece of cake! Yeah.... Famous last words.

But the Holset is in there.... I'll be making my way to the airport for some 100LL to run her on and tidy up a thousand details....

Anti-lag will almost certainly be in my engine management future.

Stay tuned! Sofar the Holset is a $150 upgrade!

Awesome, can't wait to see more progress. After my abysmal attempt at a rallycross I think I respect this car so much more

She needs to get back out to be abused. She's mostly silver now.... Donor car was a nice GT....

She will sport a coffin hood and be a little less LOOK AT ME! I'M A RALLYCAR! then in the past. I may even fit a muffler. Not to worry... She'll still yell for events

I've gotta get one of you fellers to take pics of the suspension and such.

And the reality sunk in. No one is ever going to tame the FBM like John Lane.

This **** is news worthy of a Jalopnik front page story.

Not a one who is interested in even kicking tires for 20% of what it takes to put her together.

I'll keep her and figure out another way to keep the lights on as I'll be damned if I'm going to give her away.
