Default Another No Start thread

I have been searching for a week. reading the manuals etc.

But I just cant get it.

1990 Volvo 240 wagon 5speed

No start.

Died suddenly no sputtering, no hesitation.

First thought was fuel pumps as the in tank has been dead for awhile, Main pump was noisy.

but it turned out I am not getting spark.

Digital Volt Meter showed coil as good.

followed this procedure.
https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Eng...agnosticCodesi

diagnostic mode 1 reported 1-1-1 on port 2 and 6

diagnostic mode 2
socket 6
all reported OK

socket 2
all ok
except the ac stuff.

diagnostic mode 3
all systems run.

that lead me to replace to the Power Stage Module (ignition module behind the headlight).
No change still no spark.

re-seated and cleaned grounds, had to re tap the black ground at the injector rail, that one was loose.

was a new unit but could be bad.

is there a way to test the Power Stage Module?

going to wreckers to get a module to try.

any help I would really appreciate.

A good check for spark is to see if the power stage is getting the switching signal from the ezk control module. I forget which pin but you put the meter on it and while cranking it should be a switching signal from about 0-3v. You can find the pin out at volvowiringdiagrams.com Backprobe the connector by removing the rubber boot and check the terminals that way.

If there is no switching signal to the power stage and there isn't any wiring issue. Then either the engine speed sensor is bad or the ezk computer is bad.

I did back probe that wire.

Grey wire I believe.

I was getting 1.1 - 1.7v fluctuating

Also the computer is reporting the rpm signal. When in diagnostic mode 2

I have just collected a used module

Will take some more photos of tests

Thanks
Pete

Used ignition module works

Car is running again.

So frustrating when new parts are defective out of box.

I got to thank this board.

So much info and diagnosing done really helped me tracking the problem.

Thanks
Pete
