I got everything I needed to start tackling the intake gaskets in the 240 ('89 LH2.4), but ended up with a non-running car. I checked for spark at number 1 and the coil. Neither were giving me anything. I then found out that I no longer have a noid light, so I called it quits for a bit while I researched a few things in the Bentley manual. See my build thread starting at post #174 for some context.

After cooling off for a while, I went back out to check for check engine codes. Nada. Then I checked my throttle switch. 3-3-4 (good to go).

I then checked the crank speed signal. It looks like that is no good either.

This is not too surprising to me given the state of the sensor wiring. However, It sucks that the worst of it is on the harness side. :-(

Has anybody had to repair or replace this shielded harness before? How do you do that? Also, is there anyway to check the sensor with basic tools like a multi-meter and a test light? Thanks!

I was already talking talking to another member about buying stuff from his parts car so I asked about his harness. He did me one better. He's going to try harvesting just the crank harness from the engine loom. Ill then depin and ditch the old crank wires and run the new one separately.

Does anybody have pictures of how to depin these ECU connectors? I'm sure I could figure it out, but it would be easier if I already knew what I was getting into. Thanks! IIRC this is a necessary operation for 3.1 to 2.4 conversions so I'll start reading those threads.

Nevermind. I found a write-up. I don't know why mine is so stuck, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Thanks for the sanity check, philski.

I had to twist it a bit so that there was a lip to pry against. Then a small pry bar did the trick. Car runs as smooth as butter now!
