Default Fitting Virgos on a 940

Is there any possibility to put the Virgos off my 240 on my 940SE without going to extraordinary lengths?
I had them refinished and powder coated and would hate to get rid of them...

You don't say what year your car is but virgos didn't fit on my friends 93 940 wagon. Those large front calipers rubbed on the wheels.

Oversight on my part, it’s a 1991 940SE.

What are the other options/rims that are 15” and would fit the car?

I'm wondering if the 940 wheels are dished in such a way as to provide more room for the calipers, since according to this info, the offset is within the same range as a 240 ?

If I had to guess, I'd say the inside diameter of the virgo is smaller compared to the 15s on 7/9 cars. Most 240s came with 14s, so I'm sure when they designed the virgo clearance issues with a 15 wasn't a concern. I've never had virgo wheels, so that's just a guess looking at pictures online.

yes, they are but the profile of the casting is probably a bit different, different enough to fit over the 940 brakes.

If the OP really wants to use the Virgo wheels maybe he can downsize the front brakes to those from a 740/780? Those brakes are a little bit smaller and consequently the calipers are a matched to those smaller rotors.

Right, I just wasn't sure if they were 15", I know they fit 7/9 and since OP seems to be looking for 15" only...

Stock steelies are 15" too.

Thanks everyone. The car came with the 15” rims that I believe were offered on the 960s.
Seems like a weekend project to measure the ID of both rims to see what the difference is.

I think it depends on the 91 940SE front brake setup. Does it have 287mm rotor with dual piston caliper? Or 280mm rotor with single piston caliper?

So I looked it up. Shows that 15" Virgo only fits 240 and 260.

20 slot wheel? if so, it was used on 88-90 760 and 92-94 960.

Wheel on my 88 765 is Omega, Volvo 1359180. It fit the original 287mm rotors and Bendix dual piston calipers as well as the Jumbo 280mm rotors and Girling single piston calipers.

Thanks for checking. I had taken for granted that they were all 287mm rotors across all MYs of the 940s.

I just did a quick check on RA under the 1991 940 2.3 turbocharged - all the front rotor options are showing 280mm. Does that mean the Virgos *might* fit? RA shows the 240s have a 263mm front rotor.

Did the later MY 940s switch to the 287mm rotors?

Not sure what you mean, I was just saying that the stock steel wheels on a 940 are 15".
