Default removing sound deading from roof

I'm having one heck of a time removing the old sound deadening from the roof. Most of it was sagging and coming off, so I'm trying to remove it and replace it with hush mat.

You can see in the picture what I'm dealing with. On the right, you see what happens as you try to peel the stuff off. Some of the paper stuff stays adhered to the roof. On the left, you see what happened after I tried to use heat to soften things up. I also tried this 303 adhesive and decal remover (which is some really nasty stuff I'd rather not use anymore) and came up with similar results. Haven't tried goo gone yet. I'm thinking I might try dry ice next.

How thoroughly do I need to get the old adhesive off? I want the new stuff to stick really well. Any suggestions on removing this stuff?
